Yamashita should have done better. I think Yamashita has played very well over the last year, but if she has a weakness it is in this area.
BBC commentary.....almost all of the goals Japan have conceded have come from their own mistakes You're not kidding
The US commentary sounds rather surprised about the Japanese sloppiness...Uncharacteristic, they call it...
It is interesting though. The Americans are barely trying and they are up 2-0. The player that has been really good for the US this tournament, Ertz has actually looked pretty sloppy. Nadeshiko is putting a bit of pressure on her.
The US commentary is wrong about Japan being in season already. They think only the US is still in winter mode...
That was a nice goal. The first time in this competition they have actually strung some passes together. The US went to sleep a bit, but nice goal.
That game was a perfect illustration of why I love following Nadeshiko Japan A lot of the time it's like banging your head against a brick wall...it's great when it stops But.....sometimes there are periods of play that are just fantastic to watch and are unique to our lot....When it's Japanese magic We lost 3 1 to USNWT but the world hasn't ended
Takakura said that the players have to think about some of their own mistakes. She said the only reason shy there were so many mistakes it that it is still very early in the season. The female interviewer at the end of the game at least asked her for a concrete reason. It was quite good to see. The main reason Nadeshiko cannot afford these mistakes is because they work so much harder for their goals. The three goals the US scored today were fairly easy. You have to make it hard for your opposition. The players know this of course. The guest commentator for NHK here was Hiromi Ikeda (Isozaki). She was - by Japanese standards - quite critical during the match about the lack of full-backs in the squad and how little they were being used in this particular match. I thought Miyake was pretty good today at left-back. But Nadeshiko started to play some nice football in the second half. It takes them time to gel and at the start of the season even longer. It does not take much, but due to the Americans getting tired Nadeshiko had more space to play in. I still think Takakura should have played some other central midfielders. What happens if Miura or Sugita get injured? Ueki was not in the original squad, but due to Kobayashi's injury gets called up and plays more than players originally picked in the squad. But Ueki should be in the squad. In the end the results were bad, and the play was not the best, but I am not that worried. I will worry more if in the three lead up matches to the Olympics they are making the same sort of mistakes.
Yes, good set. The U.S. team was very good, and Nadeshiko was pretty good and wild as well. The mistakes look like mistakes, but I am not sure how genuinely “unforced” these errors are. Also I liked your comments on the thread.
