The Monarchs brought back Taylor Peay for some reason too. He started alongside Holt in the opener. It's just mind-boggling how little confidence our FO has in the academy.
its not confidence in the academy that is lacking, necessarily. the mind boggling thing is how much they care about the Monarchs winning and the most ironic/fitting this so far in 2020? they haven't won a game
MLS is suspending its season immediately until further notice due to coronavirus, a source with knowledge of the situation tells Sports Illustrated.— Subscribe to GrantWahl.com (@GrantWahl) March 12, 2020 We end the season undefeated!
This epidemic is going to get worse. Some virologists are hoping the virus struggles in the conditions of summer. If that happens maybe MLS and MLB will play shortened seasons. I don’t see a plausible scenario where they make up the games lost during these 30 days.
Yeah. It's going to be rough. Also, many of us are going to be spending some extended time at home--without any soccer to watch.
I sure as hell hope that this is all worth it. Archived games? Boring. You already know the outcome, so why watch it again? You might as well watch some European league that is still playing. Or, do what I'm doing, watching the Brazilian leagues when I need my soccer fix. It's only the respective state championships and Copa do Brasil, but at least it's live and if you are lucky, a fourth or third division team will knock off one of the first division teams.
We can hope. With our training staff I wouldn't be surprised to see more injuries before play resumes.
if the actual preseason was any indicator, we're going to have double the injuries when play resumes.
They aren't going to be training together so expect RSL to come out worse than they went in. #MLS clubs will be suspending training through at least this Friday, multiple sources tell @TheAthleticSCCR. The league previously announced a pause through today.— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) March 15, 2020
But if all clubs are not training together, then everyone suffers, not just RSL. I think a better analogy would be the NFL strike-shortened season of 1982. The 16-game season was shortened to 9 games and the Super Bowl was won by my Washington Redskins (Yay!!). One of the reasons that they won (the other being John Riggins) was that during the strike, it was suggested to the players (or else they were told) to keep working out so that when the season resumed, they would be in shape to play football from the get-go. Apparently, no other team did that (or didn't emphasis it as much) and the rest is history. Now, hoping that RSL is smart enough to do the same (and the players actually listen), this could turn out to be something good, or at least, not too bad. I don't know what the trainers would have the players doing but hopefully, it's not sitting in front of the TV, playing Fortnite and drinking beer all day.
The Great Coronavirus Soccer Shutdown has now hit Brazil, sort of. Any soccer competition that is a national competition, like the Copa do Brasil, has been suspended starting Monday further notice (or some future date, I guess). However, play is still continuing this weekend during the Brazilian state championships. I guess it's up to each state to decide if they want to suspend play or not. However, even if they are continuing to play matches, the stadiums are empty so, I guess if you want to watch the game at home you can.
We're talking about a team that came into a shortened preseason. Do you really think we're going to do anything productive in the time off?
