It’s about time there is a new Atlanta rule made in small writing ✍️ on the bottom of the new CBA , somehow some way Garber will save the day
Josef’s salary isn’t erased from the cap, even if put on IR. I think the relief is something like $250k, only if he goes on IR.
Atlanta could sell Pity or Barco for a good bit of cash. They already have TAM which is useful within MLS. I figure they'll arrange a loan from somewhere for a good striker who magically costs less than the 612K DP figure out of Atlanta's pocket. Maybe they repay the loan favor with a reduced price on a transfer.
I half figured we'd have seen a deal for Adi by now. We ship him there for $600k in GAM, Cincy continues to bend over and eat all but $200k of his salary and Atlanta gets an MLS caliber starter.
For how desperate they are, I’d be pushing for a lot more than $600k. Also, if something happened to Zardes, we’d be screwed.
With all due respect, ******** Atlanta, or as some extremely creative Crew fans once said: 456464723509121026 is not a valid tweet id De Boer built this roster, and left it exposed by having no viable backup for Martinez. Boo-********ing-hoo. The Crew shouldn't lift one little pinky to help out Atlanta under these circumstances.
League dictates jack shit. Zlatan and Vela choose to live in LA because its LA, and choose not to live in Columbus because its Columbus. Why do the Red Bulls not have big name players? Surely the league wants to force players on them left right and center. Oh, wait, they choose not to because they have an actual useful academy. Its not 1996 anymore, get over it.
It's not about the league "forcing" marquee players to play in certain markets. It's about the league strictly enforcing roster/salary cap rules against some teams, and making new rules to accommodate other teams. In this league, some teams are Barcelona and some are Leganes.
So when has that happened in recent memory? Sure, we can point to the absurdity of the league in signing Clint Dempsey for a $10M transfer fee, and calling Seattle with an "hey, you want Dempsey!" offer. But seems to me that it's been quite a while since those sorts of shenanigans have happened.
When new rules get made, they apply to everyone, not just a few. Not the league’s fault Colorado and NYRB decide to only have one DP.
Like two years ago when LAG signed Zlatan but they already 3 DPs and the league let them have hav.....oh wait... They sold Gio Dos Santos so they were in roster compliance. Or Toronto having 4... wait, no. Bradley isn't a DP anymore. It's okay to acknowledge that star players want to play in big markets.
He's in Milan, and very much the exception to the rule. In 25 years we have had one world class striker in MLS who used it as a rehab stint before going back to a club and league he loves. It's arguable whether or not he was world class during his time in LA.
