Excited by this team. Our weaknesses were obvious in the two games so far, but with the remainder of new guys hopefully playing in Orlando, those weaknesses should be off the field. I love the 3-5-2, also. High risk, high reward makes for an exciting game.
In a very short period of time, I was impressed by Navarro. He got caught out once and showed Joevin Jones-like speed to recover. Other than that, he seemed to do well. Not a big enough sample size, but I’m dying for a good fullback.
No need for fullbacks in a 3-5-2! Anyway, after only seeing 2 games with an admittedly limited roster, the team looks to have a lot of depth. I am encouraged. They are still shaky in defense and Beric gets way too isolated up top, but you can see what they are capable of on occasion. Still don’t like the logo. Everything else is coming together.
He seems to fit a wing back role as well (like Jones) It seems Wicky wants you play a 352 , so that would mean Bornstein/Navarro/ Sekulic/Frankowski would be competing for the starting wingback roles. Sekulic is rumored to be compote on both sides . We may be in pretty good shape as The System takes shape.
Northbrook. Villa Park is a new club getting up and going. Good to have them around. They are Windy City Curling CLub. We are Chicago Curling Club. Were going until late April. Anyone wanting to give it a try can PM me. Villa Park can be checked too. Also, tonight, MARCH 8, is the Canadian Provincial Playdown championship. Its called the Briar, which is the top pros in their biggest event of the year. the Final is at 6PM CT on ESPN + . (or, TSN1 for the computer savvy) https://www.espn.com/watch/search/curling
As much as I'm not taken with our road kit, it beats the hell outta the abomination that is the Revs kit.
I saw the home shirt in a store yesterday for the first time. It's actually pretty nice. No, I'm not a fan of the badge, but in context, the shirt looks really good.
Very lucky to get a point. We need to cut the defensive gaffes way, way down. Other than that though (flesh wound, lol), there's much to be encouraged about. Very much looking forward to having our full squad out there. Thought the ref crew sucked. Announcers: A. So refreshing to have a professional call.
Well I was going to participate in a political revolution until I realized the New England Revolution v. Chicago Fire game coincided with the Bernie Rally and decided to just drink beer and watch it. I thought the Fire looked better in Seattle and bossed them more than the Revs however the midfield even if only at depth strength looks pretty competent. If the bigger names are yet to arrive and are in fact better that bodes well for this season. That being said the attack seemed lackluster in New England although I think Beric` does a decent job at hold up play although he is not fast in any sense of the word. I don't expect him to have too many breakaway goals. With this in mind...did I miss something? With Elliot Collier and Ignacio Aliseda on the bench as substitute forwards where is C.J. Sapong? Did he suffer an injury I missed? Seems like he would have been a perfect 60th minute substitute to provide some speed. Thankfully yes or this could have been a bad loss or another last minute gut punch. Exactly. I haven't noticed anyone being too hard on Djordie. I think he played fine and has been involved in both goals this season. I think the Fire (on paper) have a stronger midfield this year with Herbers, Frankowski, Medran, Pineda, Azira, Gimenez and Aliseda so while Djordie has been looking good (to me) I think he might have some trouble getting time with the addition of Brandt Bronico (who has been slid to the back line for the time being). We'll see how it shakes out but Djordie's got the technical skills, dead ball talent and his decision making has been excellent. All in all happy with the 1 point on the road while guys are still limping into the team and gelling hasn't occurred yet. Edit: I forgot to mention double thumbs up for Wicky's game management. I love the positive substitutions and the swap to 3-5-2 and going for the victory. Almost ended up turning south but I appreciate the non fear based decisions.
After Meola used the term “tactical” 3-4 times without any actual tactical discussion or explanation, I tuned him out.
Got home from vacation and got it out of the mailbox last night. Honestly it looks better on the field than it does in person up close. I knew it would come without a star, but I was disappointed to not have an MLS25 patch on the sleeve either.
Yeah, I don't want to oversell it, but just in this thread, there was one post following the goal that said, "what a great ball from Gimenez, and what a great finish!" ignoring the play of Djordje that was probably more critical than the initial ball that sprung him. There, there was a rating post that had Djordje as a disappointment. Again, I'm not saying the knives are out for him, but I have noticed more negativity towards him than I expected when I got back involved with the team. Just wondering if he is treated a bit as fruit from the poison tree. I do agree that he will have a harder time getting playing time starting with the next game, as reinforcements arrive. It might be time for him to head to Europe soon and build himself up for about 3 years when he would be due for his make or break contract.
Djordje just got named to the Olympic roster, so he's going to be training away from the Fire for a while anyway. Their first qualifier is March 20, and with the lack of recent success, I would expect Kreis to be asking for maximum time for the group to be together.
Good for him! I could see him being an important piece of the midfield in that team, and it should be a really talented team.
