...in exchange for what? Player? Money? I don't think that it's a horrible idea, but we need the bodies at the moment (not money).

Good point. Who on Atlanta’s roster might we want?

There are plenty of options to put on the field without Hoesen. Fierro could get more time, Thompson could move up the field and Lopez could move back. Vako could be moved out wide and Wondolowski could become a starter again. Or the younger guys could get a chance.

Hoesen seems like the most obvious trade candidate, in general. His performances haven't been great, he's been passed over to start as a forward for Andy Rios, and he's not a winger, no matter how bad the team seems to want to make him one.

I think Hoesen could be contributing more if the team were structured differently, but as everything is now, he definitely feels like the odd person out. And if you're going to trade, you always want to do so with a desperate team. The Quakes have very little to lose in trying to strike a deal here, but given the lack of interest in trading, I'm not sure we'll see one happen. Unless, of course, they have someone they want to bring in over the summer and really need the money to buy down the salary.

    Fierro - No
    Thompson - Tried that. Nope.
Lopez - Really? He struggled defensively. You want him in front of Lima?
Vako - Possibly, but exposed Lima last year. Most of us think the center of the field is a better option.
Wondo - Box guy. Putting him farther away from the box hurts the team. Hard worker, but his movement in midfield is not good and his passing is average at best.

Agree that Hoesen is a square peg in a round hole of Alymeda's system. However, we need to get someone in return to provide support for this season. We have already seen player's struggle coming into the team during the season.

Did you read my post? It doesn't look like you did. I didn't suggest putting Lopez in the midfield, nor Wondolowski.

If Hoesen isn't working out as a midfielder (which he isn't), not sure what the team loses by trying another player or shuffling players around to fill the role and trading him away. I don't think we'll see him traded just because that hasn't been a huge priority for Fioranelli, but if they do, I really don't think they give up much. Being MLS, I'm not sure they'd get all that much of a return, either, of course. Atlanta may be desperate for a forward, but there's still only so much they can give up, and I'm not sure it would be anything the Quakes actually need.

Yep, I read your post. Did you see what position Danny played against Toronto? He wasn't playing up top like in the past. Rios was.

So, if you are saying replacing him with Wondo up top, it's a different point, but I was covering from the perspective of the first game played this year which is the only data point at the moment.

The throwing bodies is a weak argument. Your post threw out a bunch of names. Hence my response.

You literally stated that the team needed bodies, though... I provided a list of them that are currently on the team in the event they traded Hoesen away for cash. Your response was to just shoot them all down because you don't like them, but guess what? They're still options.

Did you read my post? :D They need a body (from outside of the team) to replace Danny. I'm fine with trading him, but it needs to be another player...not money.

By the way, we are all taking the same pills.

So that's the thing. As a general rule, I think if you're offering up a player for trade in MLS, you don't think very much of them. That's why we've seen so many trades for allocation money as a result. The money you get in return for a player is both more flexible and more valuable than any player the team would be willing to trade you. I also don't really think trading a player for a similar player is going to do much for you. At least with regard to the Quakes, what do we have to go on? Amerikwa for Oduro? That certainly didn't work out in the Quakes' favor.

So if you're hoping to get a player in return for Hoesen, be prepared to be disappointed. Fioranelli has a short and bad track record in getting MLS players via trade. And he shouldn't bother trying. It's a small and meager market to be working in. If you're going to trade, get allocation money and put that money to use in acquiring a solid player from outside the league. The team has plenty of players that can see the field in the meantime.

Who would we even want from Atlanta's squad? (Aside from Adam Jahn, of course).

One would trade Hoeson for the cap space to aquire a solid backup #6. It's that simple.

This is not a bad idea. Not sure we have a good backup for Yuell or Judson.

Since Hoesen is clearly a big fat zero (out of position, in fairness to him) as a winger, pretty much ANY halfway decent return would make sense.
Too bad Jesse Fioranelli has so far displayed almost no ability to get moved done within MLS...

I watched Atlanta’s first half today to see how Jahn would do.

Obviously he was never going to replace Joseph and I don’t think they need or want anyone at Joseph’s level (because it would never work under the salary cap). However Jahn didn’t show anything today (at least in the first half). At best he’s a big distraction that will give pity and barco a little breathing room. That might be all they need, but since they are one of the most ambitious teams I’m not surprised they’re still trying to make a move.

I never thought about Atlanta nor do I care about them.

Looking at their highlights , they seem fine.

The Quakes meanwhile need help now!

A paragraph copied and pasted from Google translate:
"Eriksson is free to talk to other clubs as he has less than six months left on his contract with the San Jose Earthquakes. He could sign for Djurgården already now and then leave for free when his contract expires after the season. But both Djurgården and Magnus Eriksson prefer that a move is made already in this transfer window. The parties hope to find a solution where Earthquakes releases the 30-year-old after the transfer window in Sweden opened on 29 July. If Earthquakes were to stop a transfer now, the striker will return after the contract expires after the MLS season ends."

    Djurgården close to recruiting Eriksson
    Djurgarden Football July 21, 2020
Magnus Eriksson is close to becoming the next returnee to the Allsvenskan [Swedish First Division League].
According to SportExpressen information, Djurgården is now negotiating with the striker for a return - and the parties want to find a solution that brings the striker home now in this current transfer window.

Magnus Eriksson left Djurgården for MLS and the San José Earthquakes in 2017. Since then, he has been rumored to be on his way back to Djurgården on several occasions, most notably when Argentine Matias Almeyda took over as the new head coach almost two years ago after Mikael Stahre was fired .
Now a return to Djurgården is near. According to SportExpressen's information, the parties are negotiating a return and the player has received a contract proposal from Djurgården.
Eligible to Sign in this upcoming Transfer Window
Eriksson is free to talk to other clubs, since he has less than six months left on his contract with the San Jose Earthquakes. He could choose to sign for Djurgården now and then leave for free when his contract expires after the season. But both Djurgården and Magnus Eriksson prefer that a move is made during this transfer window. The parties hope to find a solution where Earthquakes release the 30-year-old after the transfer window in Sweden opens on 29 July.
If Earthquakes do prevent a transfer now, the striker will return after his current contract expires after the MLS season ends.
Replays a place in the Champions League equivalent
The MLS season is currently in full swing with matches in Orlando, which is a special arrangement due to the Corona pandemic. There, all teams play a tournament with group games where a play-off will later be played, which San Jose is already prepared for. The team is playing there for a place in the Concacaf Champions League. After the tournament is finished, it is thought that the MLS season will continue, but exactly how the setup will be, or if there will even be some more games, no one knows for sure. The Swedish transfer window opens on July 29.
