So I haven't watched more than a couple of Basel games, do we know how this new braintrust is likely to want to play? What formation they prefer?

  3. Going back over his season at Basel in Transfermarkt he played 5 in the back in the Champions League and a mish mash of formations in the league. Yeah, just like Pauno.

Armas was a great Chicago Fire. Armas is not doing well at Red Bull. No need to hurt the legacy as a player by doing poorly as a coach.

Pep also occasionally used three in the back at Bayern. His genius move was using Alaba in what was basically a box to box center back role. Unfortunately that team always had injuries so that strategy could rarely be used. My guess is we will run a 4-3-3 primarily. I do not think, like Pauno, that Wicky will go to 3 in the back to protect a lead. At least I ********ing hope so.

Yes, winning the Supporters Shield in his first year and making the playoffs his second and having a winning record overall is the very definition of:
    "not doing well."

By the way, I can separate the legacy of a player from the legacy as coach.

I would be happy with Armas leading the Fire (FC), but he would not be in my top tier of choices.

All the Red Bull fans I know are unhappy with Armas and blame their cheap management for not moving on from him. They say their “success” is in spite of him.

And just because you are able to separate Armas the player from Armas the coach doesn’t mean others can. It’s a job that is usually one where you get fired from eventually. Fans will jump at him if he’s bad, regardless of whether or not he was successful here as a player or whether you can differentiate the two.

I am all for bringing in former player in assistant roles and letting them grow from there.

That is definitely what we should have been and start doing. That said, most fans are too stupid to judge a coach so I typically don’t give a shit about their opinions on coaches, myself included.

The player/coach will hear it though. Hearing #ArmasOut from Fire fans or whoever is the coach will definitely sour what is a great relationship at least a little bit.

for example John Paxson isn’t very well seen by Bulls fans anymore.

Or, maybe, the coach would be successful and we would be happy!

There are plenty of good head coaches out there. I'll risk it with one of them versus running the risk of damaging the legacy of a club legend.

Wow, that is a risk well worth taking.

Hopefully, Wicky will be amazingly successful and we will not have to take that "risk" for many years.

  14. Paxson made some big shots, but rumor has it the bumper sticker on his Chevy read MY OTHER GUARD IS A JORDAN.

It's hardly Paxson's fault that he wasn't relieved of his duties years ago.

There was one created on December 27, 2019.

The most recent post was New Year's Eve.

Just needed to scroll a little.

Mods, "put the balls down and merge"
