I think he became a fan favorite in just one game with a generally good game and then that beauty, I bet he’ll stay that way.
It was also Alanis's crossfield pinpoint pass to Espinoza that started the sequence for our 1st goal. Basically, it's Alanis 2 - Toronto FC 2. The rest of the Quakes were too busy taking a dump
Y'all hyping up every other Mexican player that has come to @MLS this offseason... ...but you're sleeping on @os_alanis. 🇲🇽#VamosSJ | 🎥: @DesRochesSony pic.twitter.com/vhVlg1Okjn— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) March 1, 2020
I was watching him a lot and liked his confidence and willingness to get in the game. We haven't seen both qualities in a new defender for a while.
I think he'll be fairly solid. He had some scary moments, for sure, but that can be said of literally everyone on the field in that game. As he gets used to how MLS offenses look, I think he'll adjust accordingly. And if that goal is anything to go by, he has some skills that none of our other defenders really offer.
Agree. He was shaky at times in defense. Liked his passing and being comfortable on the ball, but in the end, it's about defending. I'm concerned with his foot speed against faster forwards than Jozy.
Some protection in front of them should help. Guram and Oswaldo got zero support in that regard. That midfield was pathetic, and caused all kind of defensive problems. I should go back and check to see where Yueill was most of that game. I forgot he was playing numerous times, so I'm not really sure what he was supposed to be doing.
Yeah. I didn't mention enough that you midfield was horrible. Not sure why more people aren't calling out Yuell. He was playing way too far back most of the game. No connection with Vako.
I'm not sure it was his choice, to be honest. You're right in that Yueill did not have a connection with Vako, or really anyone else, but that could be because of what he was asked to do. That formation was bad and Almeyda should feel bad for using it. That's my take. You could argue some injuries forced his hand, but I have a hard time believing that was the best combination of players for that game.
Good point. Almeyda should take most of the blame for the game. Still, I expect players to adjust during the game. Didn't see a lot of that. Hence why I think that there were a lot of comments to DOM ball and Stahre crap.
Definitely the VAR crew screwed us over on the pk. I can see the ref getting fooled by that, but, VAR exists to correct that. I would like to see what PRO would have to say of the incident.
I doubt PRO would say anything, but if they do, it would just be a statement backing the official's call with an explanation as to why it was correct. PRO is not an organization whose goal is to ensure the calls in MLS are correct. They exist to give the appearance that there is a genuine interest in getting the calls correct. Those aren't the same thing. The league won't care about getting calls right until it affects their bottom line, and there's no sign of that being an issue for the time being.
Yueill isn't a 6. I sort of like the idea that got floated on twitter today about contacting Atlanta to move Hoesen. I don't watch them that much, but if he fits their system, it could both help them and allow us to go get a more like for like backup for Judson since that's damn important to Almeyda's system....given what we saw associated with Jackson not being able to do that. Maybe I'm crazy, but if losing Hoesen got Cade Cowell and Wondo more minutes, I'm totally on board with the idea.
Don't forget the sacrcasm emoji! Becasue of the season ending injury to Martinez can't they just eat his salary for this year and sign another big star? My guess is they will bring in another south american.
It’s tricky. They need someone for just the remainder of the year. It’s a situation where bringing in an aging superstar for just a year is all they need or want. Wondo fits the bill. Although you’re right that I should have used sarcasm emoji because I don’t really believe Fisher would sell Wondo or that Wondo would go if he did.
I mean, I guess. I'm not sure it would work out that way, exactly. Nor do I think the Quakes would have bothered to sign a one year deal with him just to trade him away for some more allocation money. He's far more valuable to San Jose than he is to any other team in the league, and Atlanta must have young players they can provide valuable minutes to instead of gambling on a 37 year old forward who hasn't played for another team in more than a decade. Not the right thread for this, though. To try to put it back on track, how long do we expect the Kashia/Alanis pairing to keep up? I didn't think they worked together particularly well. Of course, it was one game, so they could certainly improve, but it was not encouraging watching them work together.
Agree on this. The partnership was a bit rough especially in the first half. They couldn’t agree on who was supposed to pick up who. I would like to see flo pair with alanis.
