Zapata just looked out of shape and tired after barely playing the end of the match. I can see why he did not start. No stamina whatsoever.
Ilicic is on fire and the team looked dominant for 70 minutes. Sadly (but totally logical) neither Duvan nor Muriel are part of this lineup that seems to be hitting on all cylinders right now.
Atalanta have dropped numerous leads throughout the season and go all out attack, the Roma game and yesterdays game are by far the most important of the season yet tactically it makes sense to add a midfielder and create a little more defensive solidity to control the game. Valencia are not great right now and I think Atalanta are fairly confident they can score a goal or two but avoiding an away goal and keeping the game a little less open was probably a good idea. If he wanted the same formation he would have gone with Muriel since he's been fantastic but Gasperini wasn't going to drop Ilicic or Papu (rightly so) and getting Papu into a forward spot and not having defensive responsibility really changes the side, and makes them much more solid defensively Gaspersini is somewhat adjusting to be a little more balanced which I think is smart simply not allowing Roma to win was the first objective since they are ahead on points in the race for 4th so I think taking off Zapata for a midfielder was tactically to achieve that, just so happens they scored right away. Same thing against Valencia he didn't want to risk a super open game and felt confident they could get it done without two strikers.
If Zapata would have the level of last year he wouldnt be in the bench for this match.......he lacks explosiveness and muriel is irregular. Actually when zapata played yesterday was the moment of the seconf half that they defend better....also thank to his controbution.......but the main reason that he is being changed or started in the bench is because he isnt at his 100%. was erased by smalling agaisnt roma.......and surely his bench yesterday was a consequence.
Really worried about him. 7 minutes into the game and he already seems gassed, slow and out of form. They should start Muriel instead of Zapata and give him minutes at the end of the game. laughable own goal by leece. The best is the announcers on espn blame it on the wind and he scores by bullying the defender haha

not really... he does seem out of breathe.... but he is one of those Falcao guys that is just always in the right spot.... you watch him not score or having the ball and it’s like watching a 7 year old playing in the outfield in baseball. Kids just looking at birds.... then out of nowhere goal! ita clear he is not in his best form or fitness levels hopefully by qualifiers he is. But we play a very different style than Atalanta. The 3rd goal would never happen with how colombia plays. They left him completely alone
