New season, a couple of new faces, same old DC.'

That was a really poorly coached team I saw today.

Ugh. They really let down at the end, felt that was one of those "unfair results", but.... they put themselves in the position to lose.

Higuain as coach now. Now. Like at the post game press conference - Ben Olsen retirement luncheon. Now.

    Not tomorrow.

    Now.

    Now.

    Now.

    Now.

    God this shit is sad.

We were outplayed and we lost. It didn’t look good for the most part. Too many shots on goal given up.

I like that we actually seemed to be trying to score. But, even before the last goal, I was thinking that Colorado were the better team today.

Flores looks good. Kamara did not impress me.

There was literally nothing to like over the last 40 minutes. It was rec-league ball. No coordinated movements, no tactics. Just go out and make something happen crap.

It is all coaching, we have no plan that we can put into place for the whole game. A 90 minute plan.

No identity. No pride. No tradition (unless that tradition is based on the last decade and a half of suck.

    Fcuk.

At what point would a normal coach put in Sorga? Why promote him and now give him 15 minutes. Take out Kamara, or Segura.

    Asad looked fat and slow.

Gressel looks like the diamond in a field of shit.

DC United at home lost a game they were up 1-0 up, were outshot 21 to 12, beaten on corners 8 to 1 and beaten 53 to 47% on possession by a Colorado team that will have to stretch to make the playoffs.

This is not a great start. The midfield did not look great. They did not have any width or speed on the field, had limited possession and showed an anemic attack. It's still early but this is not a good start.

Where are the goals going to come from on this team. Kamara was completely ineffective. DC just did not look dangerous in the attackng third of the field.

Flores was ok but nothing special. For a DP he needs to have way more impact. Gressel was better, but he is out of sync with the rest of the team. He was constantly laying off long balls that no one was able to get to reach.

Colorado owned DC on set peices and corners. They looked likely to score on every set peice.

This just sums it up. Why not try and win? No energy in the last 20 minutes means that the tall players can’t jump or get into position.

    He is so damn stupid.

I thought we did OK playing out of the back but had zero ideas in the final 3rd. Everytime we got near the box we became scared and predictable. Sad part is that Rapids looked like shit. They had no ideas either. Only difference is that when they crossed the ball into our box, they had the physical ability to compete. We have no aerial game unless it's a set piece and we bring the center backs up

In the immortal words of Chester Riley -- "what a revoltin' development this is."

I didn't expect much from the first game and I got what I expected. The major difference between the two teams is that Colorado looked like they are coached. Players knew where others would be, they didn't carelessly play balls into space "sorta near" another Colorado player. As I said earlier in this thread, Robin Fraser can coach and he had Colorado set up and hard to break down.

DCU, meanwhile, looked like an Olsen coached team. Players not on the same page, not real method to the attack, just largely aimless play. Of the newcomers, I didn't see much of what makes Flores a $5M guy. I'm going to wait because he only got 45 minutes in preseason, but he didn't look particularly quick, fast or creative. Gressel can strike a good ball, the goal came off a perfect corner to Canouse. However, Gressel is slooooow. He reminds me of Buscher, good technical skills and legs of lead. Asad looked fine in his cameo -- at least he tried to go forward when he got possession. Kamara looked meh. He plays higher than Rooney and has more speed, but if he doesn't get the ball, it doesn't matter.

Finally, Sagahfi is an ass. He hands out 4 yellows in the match and Abubakar doesn't get one? Gimme a break.

Ben's 4-3-3 is a more attack-minded formation, but the problem is that two of the middle three are basically D-mids (Moreno and Felipe).
Agree, Asad looked slow. Flores, on the other hand, hardly put a foot wrong. His ball trapping was superb, and he had some ideas. He didn't look gassed, so why take him out?

That was pretty special and amazing. The ref definitely guessed and assumed on a couple of calls against DC.

    Back from the match.

Our game to lose.. and we found a way...

There's some potential, there's a good deal of counter attacking, high press and pressure on the opposing team when we get the ball causing a turnover. Flores has potential and good control. Gressel has ability also but I think pulls the trigger too quickly. Kamara does seem to be in no mans land as nobody can find a way to get the ball to him when it's needed.

However, mind boggling substitutions... it was strangely familiar looking play with not much sense of direction like last year...

    waiting... still waiting...

Back from AF. It's going to be a long season. This would have felt as a defeat even if we had won the game. Kamara - our Kamara - is not the answer up there. And as usual, Bennyball, zero ideas, zero pride, zero taking responsabilities. Ben, just leave, for the love of God. Please. Please.

I thought the defense looked ok moving the ball, but absolutely useless in actually defending. Giving up 3 free (or sort of free) headers in the 6 yard box is flat not acceptable at this level.

I thought the attack was decent about trying to get forward, but it just seemed like they always went the wrong way, played a through ball when there was no runner, or when we had runners they played it back.

I didn't think anyone covered themselves in glory in this one.

I’d have welcomed him on for Kamara who spent too much time out of the center. I am sure to be wrong, but I don’t think I can recall a single moment of danger from Kamara.

Flores looks like he’s playing a different game from everyone else. Our lack of speed is going to be hard to watch all season long. At on point my wife with 2 plates and 8 screws in her foot and ankle said she might be faster than Segura.

Kei Kamara is a physical freak. I’m sure if here were here he’d have blown up the locker room already.

I'm out of shape and hopefully older than anyone on the team. I can confidently say I'm faster than anyone on the team and can give a respectable 45 minutes.

They move the ball but it is laterally. Either no one is trying to split the lines because they are playing as if they are afraid of making a mistake or it is because the midfielders are not moving into a position that allows for a line-splitting pass. The ball goes back and forth until it is hoofed up to the forwards.

Several teams have pedestals for balls behind ad boards behind goals so kids don't have to hold the balls the entire game and they are in a convenient location. I have not yet seen another team with ball holders on the net posts so players recover balls instead of receiving tosses from ball kids. The ball kids simply refill the ball holder.

So he was more worried with height than he was with having fresh legs on the field? Good grief.

I am going to try this one last time, Chad Ashton is responsible for tactics, or lack there of. You wanna bang on Benny for only using one sub go ahead, that is his call but this "Benny Ball" you guys talk about is Ashton Ball. Now Ben continues to keep Ashton, again on him but tactics come from Chad not Ben.
