That RSL run was extremely impressive they had good core attackers and were very disciplined at defense.
The 1993 and 2003 finals were in Mexico City. I'd love for Concacaf to spread hosting rights a bit, but that's never going to happen.
I was at that 2nd leg of the Concacaf final in Salt Lake ... happened to be in town on business, right near the stadium. Salt Lake was VERY unfortunate to not win that game outright and claim the title. They just didnt have their shooting boots. I walked away sad that day.
#1 in the region except for four countries doesn't mean #1 in the region when the four countries include USA. According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_population_(United_Nations) the every country except four has 198,912,269, and the four have 388,548,405, which is 66.1 percent of the total of 587,460,674. The UN defines Central America as the seven UNCAF countries and Mexico. The every country except four group has Central American, the Caribbean except for Cuba and DR, and Bermuda. The UN has five countries in Northern America. USA and Canada go with Cuba and DR, Bermuda goes with everyone else, and I excluded Greenland (56,672 people) and Saint Pierre and Miquelon (5,822 people) who do not play in Concacaf.
Thanks for the Hofstra reference. NYCFC got 4,396. That will beat Hofstra's Men's Basketball Senior Day because capacity was downsized to 4,200-something. In the last season Hofstra played Football, they averaged 4,260. In 2019, Hofstra was below the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) average attendance in Men's Soccer (who finished third) and Women's Soccer (who won the regular season and CAA Tournaments, won an NCAA Tournament game, and finished 14th of 338 in the RPI). NYC area schools get poor attendance in Men's Basketball. There are 353 teams, and 5 of the 7 NYC teams are in the bottom 97 in average attendance. Long Island University and St. Francis (Brooklyn) are in the bottom 16, and combining their averages would rank 284th. Just like soccer isn't popular in the highest population country in Concacaf, NCAA sports aren't as popular in the biggest city and its suburbs.
Full strength XIs, it looks like, for both LAFC and Seattle. I'll be watching LA until they concede, then switching to Seattle.
The mystery yellow card at the end of the first leg that suspended Kyle Beckerman (who probably earns fewer yellows than he deserves on a season-by-season basis, but not that one) hurt the team, too. That game is difficult to revisit, given how many posts and crossbars we hit, and how many open nets we missed. We had a very good, very balanced team top to bottom, but had no one like Humberto Suazo, who scored on Monterrey's only shot on goal.
Strong header on the goal, but Arreaga defended poorly and Roldan inexplicably left the post, having been standing exactly in the space the shot went through. Why play the post and then start to clear out even before the first touch off the corner kick?
It isn't CCL unless one MLS team posts a really stupid loss in the R16 and fails to advance against a team they really should beat.
Could-should be 2-0 LAFC by now if not for that erroneous offside goal call. 1-0 though, and LAFC looking good.
