My thoughts exactly. Good hype music for MLS commercials but maybe a bit too aggressive for the players' entry. But I'd rather they erred in this direction than settle on something too sleepy.
I was thinking it's a like a less impressive version of the original Shinsuke Nakamura walkout in WWE.
I really hate it as a walk-out anthem. It would make a good theme for TV broadcasts, but as an anthem it's a huge step backwards from what MLS was using before.
Stick with the old one or, better yet, use the FIFA Anthem if only because it's a majestic piece that FIFA doesn't even use for World Cup matches anymore.
I suspect (and hope) that the actual version used isn't what we just saw posted on the MLS website. I have a hard time believing it will be the orchestral fantasy rock version they posted, and think it's probably going to be just the orchestral (intense though it may be) without the JJ Abrams "giant monster appears" sound effects. Fingers crossed, at least.
This doesn't feel like a walkout theme. This feels like background music for a highlight package. The first player who refuses to walk out unless the OG MLS anthem is played has my respect. That's where the protest needs to be.
I'm less optimistic. From the sound, I'm about 99% sure that the string instruments were individually miked and amplified. (Am a semi-pro string player, have played amplified gigs.) If they're going to make a clean orchestral version, I'm pretty sure it would have to be recorded separately, which of course costs money. Also, the music would be rather boring without the sound effects. There isn't any ear-catching melody.
"Never Give Up on You" - Nashville SC Anthem February 21, 2020 (3 min) So Nashville released their official anthem. Does this tell us what kind of season they're expecting?
I quite liked the old one. This new one is kind of awful. And worse, really boring. I kept waiting for it to start and then it was over. Not sure "anthem" is the word either.
It is not a bad song per se... but as said before it is more of a highlights package or feature presentation thing than an anthem... too much electronic things in that I guess... zero melody.
MLS HQ wants an anthem to get pumped up for, they want a reception for the fans and supporters to welcome the players to the field. Sheet! Look no further than James Brown! I mean Apollo got kilt! But the vibe was rockin' as far as setting the stage!
James Brown just reminding us that we still ain't got a team in New Orleans, Detriot, or Pittsburgh PA.
Talk about a great city when talking music and MLS! My buddies and I here in Houston were recently talking about having a new team in New Orleans, either full on MLS or a USL side. If one does not know, it does not take a lot for Lousiana folks to celebrate, anything, more so on the weekends. A well financed and well run pro soccer team downtown could be a way to bring all sorts of diverse people together in their great city. Perhaps our Houston FO would go long on a second USL Championship club affiliated and set up in New Orleans. I would utilize a similar theme found in Vasco da Gama and their crest with the nautical theme being NOLA is a legendary port city in our nation's culture. LAFC pinched New Orleans's Saints colors of black and old gold but the soccer team in NOLA could just go black and white a la Newcastle or Juve or black sash a la Vasco.
It's fine, but you honestly could find 10-15 better options by just looking at the song catalog from companies like Immediate Music or Two Steps From Hell. It is better than what the EPL plays though...they haven't had a decent anthem since the early 2000's. 1. Bundesliga anthem 2. UEFA Champions League anthem -----powergap----- 3. Old Fifa anthem 4. New Copa Libertadores anthem 5. CONCACAF anthem 6. New MLS anthem 7. Old MLS anthem 8. New Fifa anthem -----powergap----- 346. EPL anthem
If New Orleans ever got a team I don't think anyone would be mad if they went with black and gold because it's recognizable as the Saints colors. However, when I think of New Orleans I think of Mardi Gras colors of Purple, Teal and Gold.
I could have done without the beat drop to a giant fart sound at the start but other than that it’s pretty good
The Athletic noted that Alexi Lalas wrote lyrics for the old MLS anthem. They were never used, but here is the music: https://soundcloud.com/alexilalas/gather-us-all-mls-theme-w-lyrics
