Not sure what's not making sense to you- the quote I was initially responding to said that "CFFC" was being used to avoid SEO issues with the TV show. CFFC is just an abbreviation, just like CF97 is/was- CF97 could still have been used even with the rebrand and similarly eliminates SEO issues.

Are you talking about the Twitter hashtag?

More the abbreviation CF97 than the hashtag itself, but yes- it represents the Chicago Fire (FC) much better than CFFC does, and appears to do better with search engines.

For me, googling CF97 (not the hashtag- no #) brings up Chicago Fire FC results and schedule! Googling CFFC brings up... Cage Fury Fighting Championship, which I had no idea was a thing.

EDIT: I didn't think to look at Twitter, but awkwardly, they have both #cf97 and #cffc in their bio now.

I have to give the team PR department some credit for this one. Making the best of an annoying situation. Also, the patches are a cool idea.

/side note. I saw Plain White T's back in 2003 when they were the first opener for some major punk band (forgot which one by now, Rancid maybe?) and they were hilariously out of place in the lineup and got a reception that was about as good as this current jersey is getting right now.

I'm not @'ing anybody, but the new secondary kit is atrocious. Easily the most boring, lazy, and subjectively (I'm talking science here, lads) worst kit in team history. More boring-er than 2015's half-assed attempt at a Chicago flag homage, more boring-er than the 2010 and 2011 prison underwear getup. Somehow, they made a monochrome white kit even more boring than it's ever been before, ever. It's an absolute snoozer.

The sudden burst of Calvo in all the marketing materials certainly suggests he's got the armband.

Also - the Plain White T's thing was good marketing, I'll give them that. The patch thing is cool, I guess, but it's weird that they can give those patches away but not get a couple of MLS patches for the sleeve or a star above the crest on a retail jersey. I remember Seattle and/or Portland getting a star on their replica a few years ago, so it's not unprecedented.

Feels a bit like workshopping new crest ideas/elements.

Yes, as only 10 people in Chicago know who either Chicago Fire (FC) or "Plain White T's" are at this point.

Logo still sucks. What doesn't suck though is the new social media team. Impressed with their output. As to the secondary, it's ok, but would be better with a dash of color (i.e., red). At least it doesn't suck (like the logo!).

That horrific "Hey There Delilah" song went 4x Platinum and was the number one song in the USA/world for a while there in 2007. They may be awful, but I can't say they aren't well known or popular.

Song matches the logo (both suck). That said, many people love the song, my daughters included, lol.

I am familiar with that song, but I had no idea who recorded it or that it was in any way tied to Chicago.

    Popular in 2007, hmmm?
    Completely disappeared after that?

What happened with the Chicago Fire in 2007 to change the course of the Chicago Fire history:
    1. that made them very popular for a while (Blanco) and
    2. then quickly fade into obscurity (Hauptman).

    Excellent parallel there, @CMeszt

Technically the song was released in '06 so it fits even more.

I believe it was Lil Wayne that once said “a fool and his money shall soon be dearly departed”, or some such.

The homecoming kit is listed as a best seller, but that one has an actual design so it’s not too surprising.

I'll get one at the locker room sale or whatever it was called next fall. Still haven't gotten a shipping notice on my home jersey, so I guess I won't be wearing it for game #1.

    A) This is dope

    B) I would be very happy if the the new logo was something in the ballpark to this. Feels classic but new. (Obviously this is too wordy to be a badge)
