Assuming he picks up where he left off, he starts on a weekly basis as a center back. That's where he played at least in the latter part of his DA career, also, winning the championship at that position. His potential at that position is extremely high and potentially game changing given our lack of ball playing center backs. I guess this year is where it will get sorted out pretty much for good.
It’s crazy how quickly a position can be filled with a lot of depth and absolutely no depth at all... It wasn’t that long ago, I’d say that our CB depth is better than anywhere else on the field. Now, I’d still say forward, goalkeeper, and left back is worse, but signs indicate that it is projected to be our second worst position behind goalkeeper.
I think if Sands didn't suffer two separate injuries last season, he would've got more acclaim. His best last season was just as good as Pomykal's best. I like him more at CB, and that also prevents him from blocking Haak at NYCFC. But his versatility is also something that's beneficial for a tournament roster.
Definitely a threat to not have quality cb's for this competition. Both of the players looked good in the Euro friendlies against Netherlands. No guarantee Richards is released, though I'm hopeful. May come down to a group of Glad, Sands, Trusty, and McKenzie. I'm going w/ Trusty and Sands out of that crew. Miles Robinson update: Sources close to the situation say he will miss the Concacaf Champions League first leg match against Motagua on Tuesday at a minimum. One source described the quad strain as "bad."#ATLUTD— Roger Gonzalez (@RGonzalezCBS) February 14, 2020 D.C. United's Donovan Pines will miss 5-6 weeks with ankle injury #dcu #mls— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) February 13, 2020
It's still disappointing that he's injured again, but I do find it somewhat funny that Atlanta was throwing a fit last year when Robinson pulled something when called up to the USMNT, held him out of January camp with the US to keep him healthy for CCL, and then he ends up injured anyhow.
Miami 2 hired Kreis as coach and explained that... Darren Powell, Inter Miami’s Director of Player Development and former Head Coach of San Antonio FC, will serve as the team’s Head Coach when Kreis is on duty with the U-23 national team at the 2020 Summer Olympics. https://www.intermiamicf.com/en/pos...head-coach-announces-full-technical-staff-and
Tim Weah may not have been released by Lille for Olympic qualifying anyway. No information on the severity of the injury, but it doesn't sound good. #USMNT youngster Timothy Weah re-injured just minutes into his return to field after six-month layoff https://t.co/tDRIFUYKcQ pic.twitter.com/PBFKNpuf0o— NBC Sports Soccer (@NBCSportsSoccer) February 17, 2020
The provisional rosters for the 2020 Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship - which can include up to 50 players and are non-binding - are due Feb. 19. Concacaf will publish a few days later.— U.S. Soccer Comms (@ussoccer_comms) February 17, 2020
This falls on the club and is so disappointing for him. They'll be much more careful next time so I wouldn't expect to see him back this season. Hopefully he gets released for the Olympics.
I've heard Jason Kreis is scheduled to be in Austria to watch Erik Palmer-Brown and Austria Vienna take on Jesse Marsch's Red Bull Salzburg team. Austria Vienna aren't keen on releasing EPB but maybe Kreis is going to try to negotiate. We'll see.
Euro clubs say 'no' to youth NTs from the Americas because of the long travel times. Or maybe just to troll us hard.
As mentioned elsewhere, U.S. Soccer has said CONCACAF could publish the (essentially meaningless, it seems to me) provisional rosters for qualifying tomorrow.
And even if they're not canceled (and I can't see IOC actually pulling the plug on all that money), I can't see any of the Euro teams releasing any of their players to go play in a tournament where they have a chance of catching a pandemic virus. Hell, I can't imagine MLS teams will be too thrilled about it, either.

Thanks for the list. And I never knew that Richard Ledesma's common name is actually Richard Dedezma. I will be referring to him as Dedezma from now on.
Our best players (Pulisic, Dest, Adams, McKennie, Sargent) are all unsurprisingly not in the roster. Literally everyone else you'd expect to be in the running to make the team is in here. I would not expect Gio to be on the team even though he is in the provisional roster. A pretty surprising omission for me is Owen Otasowie. I don't know much about the Mexico u23's so does their roster look like their first choice team?
Reyna is on the provisional roster. But I do not expect him to play in this tournament or the Olympics if we qualify.
U.S. Soccer, seemingly managing expectations a bit with a release that pairs with the provisional roster: https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2020/02/olympic-qualifying-roster-selection-its-complicated Maybe worth noting is the quote from Kreis that "We continue to have conversations with all the players' clubs as we face the difficult task of selecting a final 20-man roster from this pool of 50" -- but I doubt they feel any more bound by the list than they need to be. And, to reiterate: The final 20-player roster is due March 10, at which point the team is locked and the mission clear.
Told ya. They're not releasing anyone unless he's absolutely useless, in which case why would we want him?
