I just thought of something: do you guys think that maybe what's keeping him in real madrid has to do with his child and his ex-wife? She still lives in madrid with their daughter right?

he should just retire he doesn’t want play any more. Nothing wrong with just wanting to be a dad and being able to retire in your late 20s is fking awesome

our greatest player ever and a complete idiot. Wish he had more of a Falcao mentality. He would be like I can have an army of children and play till I’m 50

Yeah I really think we need to develop a game that doesn't rely completely on James or Quintero. I think we'd be at our best with them, but we have to be realistic with Quintero still struggling after injury and James looks to be working his way out of the national team and club soccer. It's very possible we can pull it off, and my gut feeling is James is bluffing because he thinks he has the leverage. He might, but its one thing to be sitting in the stands in Madrid, he's always had the NT and been important, but if he finds himself on the outs there and isn't involved I'd imagine it might be the best way to smack some sense into him. If Cardona was smart he'd get his shit together and work his ass off, because there is an opening here for him, with no James or Quintero he absolutely even if he's playing in Mexico might be the best scenario for us.

And it's telling that Bale is given tons of chances after falling out with Zidane. The petulance of James to say don't call me up to be a sub is so ridiculous. You stay at a club where you have basically no chances of playing for a season but think that you can come to the National Team and set your terms? This guy is humiliating himself, its sad to see.

yeah I wouldn't call this guy up at all. All of the playmakers we've had have been either inconsistent, lazy or injued (or all 3).

we'll struggle for a while and the press will be probably bitch and moan for a long time but I think we should look for other ways to play.

I can imagine James saying it. The guy is arrogant - and dumb. He could easily feature in the next Dumb & Dumber movie. I remember at Copa America James pushed a team mate out of his way during a match. That sums it up well how he sees himself in the NT.

Oh man I remember that push/shove. I want to say it was accidental / heat of the moment, but you may be right and he was trying to assert some sort of alpha dog mentality.

Depends what do you mean by accident. It all happened very quickly and obviously it was his instincts that made him do it, but moments like that are very revealing.

I think he's been the darling of Colombian soccer since 2014 and its gotten to his head. He's now feels entitled, even though he's making really stupid mistakes. I will say 90% of the time for Colombia he gives his all, but the guy is ********ing up more and more and this crosses a line.

Yeah Zidane says a lot of stuff, he's got a long history of yanking James chain and his actions over that time speak loud and clear.
*If James said what the prior reports said he did its smart to leak it to the press, don't let James pull that diva shit behind closed doors and get away with it. Call him out and let him get the heat and have a chance to reconsider and commit to doing whatever is needed.

If that was the case, don't you think the situation would've been made worse? Sure, it MIGHT teach him a lesson. But if I'm James, the bigger takeaway from all that is that my two bosses basically went and tattled on me. I told them something in confidence and they went and published it to the whole world. Petty. IF this was true, and James has the kind of ego to say what he allegedly said, wouldn't you be even less inclined to go to the seleccion now?

Idk. My gut tells me he didn't say it. There was a he-say, she-say thing when he missed the October friendlies. First, Quieroz was a giant douche for not including our best player ever. Then, they had actually met and agreed that it was best for him to try to win his place in Madrid.

I'm sad that all this press that haunted him before he left Real is now calling into question his allegiance to Colombia. He's been our best player ever and played his heart out for us every single time--regardless of what was happening at club level.

And I think that's something people are failing to see from James' POV. IF the guy's done nothing but perform for his country, and you want him to improve his club form, you frame the warning in the positive: "You've helped Colombia become what it is today. But we want to go even higher. We need you playing to your full potential every week so Colombia can reach its full potential."

You don't threaten your best player of all time...

We don't really know what happened, but you also cannot allow a player to dictate terms to a coach when he's not playing basically by choice. I don't really have a stance on if he said it or not, but I'm really not sure why they'd go meet with him in person unless there was something up.

Honestly if you're a coach and a player says that to you your options are basically to drop him or eat shit. It doesn't matter who the player is or what he's done, the coach needs to have the power or else it doesn't work. Leaking it to the press might give a second option, that the player smartens up and you let them know that they don't have all the power and will face consequences if they take petulant actions. That's all contingent on him saying it, but just like a coach can protect you in the press to help you he can also let you suffer in the press if you deserve it and if it will create a positive result.

The coach must also manage the morale of the team and his players. James is not somebody you tell that you're going to bench easily. Especially not when he's still performing. At the end of the day, club and country are separate. If he was having poor performances for Colombia, that'd be another story.

I'm not saying Quieroz has to lower his standards. If James should be benched if he continues to be anonymous for his club, than that is the coach's choice. It's how you communicate it that matters.

And in the game today, as much as a I don't like it, you cater to your star players. But this is a bit different then, say, Mbappe's recent little tantrum or stories about Messi running the show at Barca. Colombia doesn't pay James bills. He volunteers. He's brought Colombia to another level and continues to because of his devotion to the country.

Again, I don't think this conversation happened nearly in the way they've reported it as. But if it did, and Quieroz is letting him suffer in the press, that's just another illustration that he's not handling this correctly. James has a history of being benched when hes actually playing well and being demonized in the media. Can't expect a beaten dog to fix up with another beating...
