Frank against Fußball-Club Bayern München in 2005

Ballack scoring a great penalty for them

N'Golo Kante, Christian Pulisic, Pedro and Callum Hudson-Odoi are unlikely to feature. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is available after returning to the bench against Tottenham on Saturday.

Chelsea have been eliminated in the last 16 of each of their last three Champions League campaigns and have failed to reach the quarter-finals since 2014.

The four previous matches in all competitions between Chelsea and Bayern Munich have produced 17 goals, an average of 4.25 per game.

Since we're playing at home, I'll take a dull 0-0 a la old Mourinho style.

When was the last time we had a 0-0? I mean I might take it, but I cannot see it being a 0-0 tonight.

It would be great to score first. I cannot see us winning the tie. Munich are too strong for us. Although chatting with some B Munich fans and they were oddly nervous about the fixture.

    The Germans are clear favourites.

    Recent form:

    Chelsea Champions League form: LWWDDW
    Chelsea form (all competitions): LDWDLW

Bayern Munich Champions League form: WWWWWW
Bayern Munich form (all competitions): WWWDWW

    Head To Head

Chelsea and Bayern Munich have squared off on four occasions in Europe, games which have ended with neither club being able to keep a clean sheet.

The last two contests - the 2012 Champions League final and 2013 UEFA Super Cup - have been decided on penalties, with both teams winning one apiece.

Bayern's only visit to Stamford Bridge came in April 2005 as two goals from Lampard helped Chelsea to a 4-2 victory

If we were healthy, I would be slightly more confident. As it stands, and after the emotional match on Saturday, I'm less optimistic.

I think that's probably just being a football supporter.

Everyone is nervous if it's a match against a 'big team'... or 'medium team'... or a 'small team'.

Basically if it's against another team :D

Same team that beat Spurs. AND because they beat Spurs doesn't mean they are the right team to beat or even play well against Munich. I would perhaps have included Willian instead of Alonso or Barkley. Still, with no Kante, Pulisic or CHO the team picks itself in some ways. Tammy might start instead of Giroud, but that is a match fitness issue. Kepa might have started, but he is now the most expensive keeper on the bench.

This is your weekly “this Kepa thing is still blowing my mind” post.

Scared. Weirdly optimistic? Oof. Prayers up.

Well the stats give him a poor shot stopping record. He pissed off Sarri and now he has pissed of Lampard. Smoke. Fire. Has to be more to the story.

Robert Lewandowski is in the "form of his life" according to boss Hansi Flick.

He has scored 38 goals in 32 games in all competitions for Bayern this season. He has only failed to score in seven matches for the club all season.

Way too many early giveaways in the middle of the park. Bayern too good not to take advantage if we keep this up.

does seem to be more to the story and behind the scenes, but I don't put much weight on those stats specifically or generally, does not account for all the point blanks and 1 on 1 our slow developing, especially early, defense foisted upon him combined with all our possession, our keepers do not see a lot of shots but when they do they are usually unmarked, point blank and or 1 on 1 shots so you could have 50 % saving 1 of 2 point blank unmarked shots while the opposing keeper stops a lot of our so-so shots and pad their stats

Don\t recall too many real blunders, though his distribution has had a few

A counter-attacking Willian might have been more useful tonight

I've never seen a group of players who can flop on the ground when an opposition player gets near them as this lot.
