Not a lot of detail yet, but July 2019 is mentioned as a possible start date, in reports from Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica.

    Qualifier Draw Results
    Group A
Bermuda, Antigua & Barbuda, Guyana, Suriname, Saint Lucia
    Group B
Anguilla, St Kitts & Nevis, Grenada, St Vincent & The Grenadines, Barbados

    Championship Draw Results
    Group A
    USA, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Cuba
    Group B
Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico
    Group C
    Canada, Jamaica, Guatemala, El Salvador
    Group D
Haiti, Trinidad & Tobago, Panama, Cayman Islands

Concacaf in the draw video names the 6 groups A–F, or Q–Z or something. :cautious: If the allocation is like in 2018, three teams will go to the U-20 World Cup in India 2020.

In the 2018 final, Mexico beat the U.S. on penalties, while Haiti finished 3rd against Canada in an 8-team final tournament.

India was appointed as the host of the U17 Women's World Cup 2020 on March 2019 so would not be eligible as a host of the U20 WWC 2020. The other candidate was South Korea but the host has yet to be announced.
About Concacaf qualifiers the format looks similar to the U17 and U20 male tournaments that have being played in the stadiums of the IMG Academy of Bradenton Florida in 2018

Qualifier round: This was played in July – yes, the 4 best teams will go directly to the last 16 knockout round in the finals, whenever those are held.

These 4 will bypass the group stage at the U-20 Championship:
[IMG] Guyana, [IMG] Saint Lucia, [IMG] St Kitts & Nevis, [IMG] Grenada

Guyana and Saint Lucia came through Group A, at the National Track and Field Center in Leonora, Guyana. The home team beat Saint Lucia 2-0 to ensure qualification, and then Guyana sealed a 100% record, with a 3-1 win over neighbours Suriname. Saint Lucia (2nd) won three games including a 4-3 against Suriname. Bermuda (3rd) got a 6-1 win against Suriname (4th), ahead of Antigua (5th).

Group B: The hosts St Kitts & Nevis won every game, at Warner Park in Basseterre – the SKN squad included Quinn Josiah of the U.S. college team Prairie View. Also qualified is Grenada (a.k.a. the Spice Girlz - good nickname but not as cool as Reggae Girlz imo). Missing out were Bermuda (3rd), Anguilla (4th) and St Vincent & the Grenadines (5th).

    The host for the finals:
    [IMG] Dominican Republic 2020
    [IMG]

The main games will be held in Santo Domingo at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez, with others in San Cristobal. The four groups are as stated in the OP. The four qualifiers will join in the last 16 and potentially exit the finals after a single game  So, maybe those 4 will play friendlies while they're in the country.

This format is very odd. Why would the four qualifiers advance straight to the quarterfinals?

It's just the way Concacaf does things now... Maybe they're trying to make their other championship formats seem less ludicrous?

Those qualifiers enter in the round before the quarterfinals - the round of 16. (So, the best 12 from the groups, plus 4 qualifiers).

Some tournament previews are online – Guatemala's 20 players flew out on Thursday and will kick off v Jamaica in match 1; Guyana are ready for a 3-game group phase, after being re-drawn together with Mexico; and hosts Dominican Republic have been preparing. One preparation was an U20 tournament for UNCAF (Central America) with 9 teams in November; Costa Rica won 1st place.

Saturday is day 1 of the finals, with four group games.
► Live streams are currently available for Canada, the Caribbean and outside the Americas, but not the US or Latin America. There's some TV coverage too. The hosts use Atlantic Standard Time (AST), see your local schedule here

    ► Day 2, Sunday.

Three teams make their tournament debuts: Puerto Rico, Guyana and SKN

    [IMG] [IMG] Trinidad/Tobago v St. Kitts/Nevis, 1pm AST / 17:00 GMT

[IMG] [IMG] Mexico vs Puerto Rico, 4pm AST / 20:00 GMT

[IMG] [IMG] Guyana vs Nicaragua, 7pm AST

Highlights from day 1 - an incredible comeback by Jamaica U20s after they lost 3 goals to Guatemala. In the second half Marlee Fray hit a hat-trick for Jamaica. But Guatemala's Andrea Alvarez made it 4-4 with her 2nd goal of the game.

Match reports: Jamaica Observer (Archive), PrensaLibre.com (Archive)

Canada grind out a win 2-0 against El Salvador, who defended well. Goals by Tanya Boychuk and Kaila Novak.

Easy wins in the other games, for the U.S. 9-0 v Cuba (Mia Fishel 4 goals), and for the hosts against Honduras. Two goals each for Dominican Republic's Liliane Clase and Alissa Oviedo:

The way this is set-up will result in one of USA or Canada not qualifying for the U-20 World Cup. The semis should end up as USA vs. Canada & Mexico vs. Trinidad & Tobago or Haiti(Group F winner).

And here we see the problem with Concacaf, in one convenient group-play chart.

Mexico struggled to defeat Puerto Rico with the last kick of the game goal. Despite being far superior, they did not do well enough. Improvements will be needed soon.

[IMG] Haiti's U20 team are good, that's why they're a group seed. They went to the last U20 World Cup.

A heavy win for Haiti (or should we say "Ayiti"), 8-0 v Cayman Islands in their first game - promising striker Melchie Dumornay scored goals early and late.

Puerto Rico's tournament debut was nearly a shock point against the holders - Mexico needed 3 efforts to take the lead, a disallowed header and 2 penalties, only one scored by Alison González, who also got the last-minute winner to make it 2-1, after Puerto Rico had equalized. Emojis can lie, but when Gabrielle Cimino made it 1-1, I was literally

Great performance by Trinidad & Tobago's Afyiah Cornwall, 4 goals v St Kitts & Nevis. The goal that gave Cornwall her hat-trick before halftime was special, beating at least 3 players in the area, and she added a long-range lob in the final seconds.

A good debut for Guyana, in the rain of Santo Domingo - a win for Guyana 3-1 against Nicaragua - (Aubrey Narine 18', Jade Vuyfhuis 49', Serena Mcdonald 62' - Jaclyn Gilday 63')

Canada draws vs. Guatemala 0-0. Might not matter much unless Canada is trying to avoid a setup of facing the USA in the semis.

the way Canada has been playing it won't surprise me if Jamaica end up knocking them off on Wednesday. would be ironic if Chantelle Parker could have the game winner. She is from Canada and got passed over by them. Had eligibility with Jamaica and has been killing it so far this tournament. She was involved in all 4 goals for the reggae girls today. Wonder how long it is before Canada comes calling

Canada finishing second would set them up vs. USA in the quarterfinals. Even a third-place finish would pit them against the USA in the semis(or against their group winner in the quarters). So trying to avoid the USA until the finals isn't going to work.

really is a shame only 2 of these teams get into the World Cup. think its kind of cheap they have a co-host and both get automatic bids.

if they made them both qualify, both may not get in. Can't imagine a World Cup on any level where the host country doesn't play and they sell tickets. It's still about making money. Even if the lowest-ranked FIFA team, Mauritius(#155), were to host, they'd still automatically qualify.

Two hosts for a 16-country u-20 women championship look excessive in my opinion .. Costa Rica alone and even Panama could host this tournament individually. Here in Panama City we have 3 decent stadiums, and 1 or 2 more stadiums could be improved in the province

I agree with the host country should be in. I just think it should be held in one country and that be the country that gets the auto qualifier. If its going to be 2 hosts it should at least be 2 countries that are usually in. OR the auto qualifier shouldn't take away a spot from a regions qualifiers. If a team is hosting from your region your region would by default get 1 extra team in the tournament.

Only one of the US or Canada was ever going to make it. The bracket is set up so that two groups are on the same side and don't meet anyone from the other two groups until the final, at which point they had already qualified or not qualified. Seems like a pretty bad set up considering it put so much more importance on the drawing of the groups.
