Don't take my word for it. PPI has done the math and it doesn't look good.

Nice use of the Bernie Sanders emoji.

As I've said before, we don't live in a democracy where every vote counts. I live in a trump state. He gets our EC votes no matter what. So I'm not going to send the message (to the extent that one vote is a message) to other dems that I am buying the bullshit that Sanders is peddling.

Only Warren has claimed she would only tax the rich for this.
Tax rates can go back to where they were pre Clinton era.

Remember, Trump also ran on raising taxes on the rich. It helped him in the primary.
    Do you?

Netherlands very much so, Inheritance taxes from 10% to 40%; 51% income tax on income above 68K Euros, imagine some democrat proposing a 51% income tax on 73K and above, how many votes you think they would get?.

Also High VAT on some products

    https://www.amsterdamtips.com/taxation-netherlands

    NZ.

28% corporate, 33% top tax rate. 15% VAT.

    https://www.newzealandnow.govt.nz/living-in-nz/money-tax/nz-tax-system

Switzerland has high local taxes (city and their version of States) Federal is pretty low.

    https://www.mme.ch/en/magazine/maga...erview_of_individual_taxation_in_switzerland/

    http://taxsummaries.pwc.com/ID/Switzerland-Individual-Taxes-on-personal-income

    https://www.nordeatrade.com/en/explore-new-market/switzerland/taxes

I kind of like the Switzerland set up, I rather pay high taxes to Chicago and Illinois than to DC ;)

Sweden also taxes very high like the Netherlands, but lots of people pay the high rate.

    https://taxfoundation.org/how-scandinavian-countries-pay-their-government-spending/

So again, how well do we think a proposal to raise taxes to 60% on everyone that makes over 60K would work in the USA?

I tell you one thing, if Sanders loses (I hope he wins) I will not come in here celebrating that he lost with lines like, 'I am happy that at least Sanders is not president'.

I do not like Sanders, but I will hold my nose and vote for him, multiple times if I can.

Where did I write taxing only the rich? You want good stuff as a country, you pay for it as a country.

Nothing that works is acceptable to U.S. voters. A bunch of them might talk about how they want a balanced budget, but if that ever happened, man would they scream.

This is part of the problem...

The guy earns over £80k p/a, (just over $100k), and still thinks he's poor and isn't even in the top HALF of incomes which, obviously, is wrong. He IS in the top 5%.

I think if you can say you'll save 'X' on your healthcare costs you might be onto something but, as I said, you have to provide a concrete example of a benefit.

    True.

I do have to say Sanders asked in the Nevada debate "why can't the USA have a system like Denmark?'

Well the answer is because a system like Denmark would require the American people to agree to pay high taxes like Denmark.

BTW I made an error in my post above.

it is 60% tax rate in Denmark on income above 60K USD.

It is "only" 57% on 1.5 average income in Sweden (if wiki is right, average income in Sweden is about 35K, so the high rate would kick in at around 53K, but someone should fact check me on those numbers).

1 billion times (I guess several "trillion") this.
Nobody in the main stream media nor most politicians have complained about the tax cuts, or the stupid, pointless, endless conflicts (they are not even "wars") or the privatization of the military, etc.

But, providing affordable access to health insurance, with no out of pockets, to everyone?
Oh, god that is worse than Hitler.

The galaxy brains will dumptruck anyone who ever had a single positive thought about anyone with the surname “Clinton” and will retweet the shit out of Peter Daou, but will overlook some of the more notable entries on his CV.

Haha. No. Just saying a lot of Republicans switched from Never Trumpers to “I could vote for that” in the election. I expect a good number of Dems that are flaming Sanders will be voting for him in December.. If he wins, then I’m expecting the DNC to be remade in his image, which likely means a purge of center and center-right dems.

The conservative Dem abortion stance in Mizzurah has the “my faith prohibits me from X” bit, but there are also some other components. They don’t do much to restrict a woman’s access. Things like no abortion after 24 weeks except in cases of rape, incest, woman’s health, or fetal viability. So it bans a 1 in 300 abortion.

So one mistake I made yesterday I'd want to correct today - I cited general election polling that showed Sanders was strong against Trump.

The problem is that Likely Voter models for the general aren't out yet. Historically they trend R. If Sanders does indeed turn off the Suburban vote, the likely voter electorate could look VERY ugly for him. He would need to absolutely electrify the urban centers to make up for the lack of enthusiasm in the suburbs.

I guess I really shouldn't discount the idea of Sanders tapping an urban uprising. AOC proved there's definitely a HUGE progressive bastion there. They generally don't vote, but maybe he can inspire them? That's one thing we'd never know from IA & NH, and of course NV is a caucus state which is BS to begin with.

Saw two Bloomberg yard signs today. I'm resisting the urge to go with bold font, as large as possible, as bright as possible, because one of them was in front of a house owned by people who hosted multiple Hillary Clinton fundraisers in 2015 and 2016.

Speaking of Bloomberg. Great parody ad. NSFW
