A 6-1 (!) win moves Bayern II into 8th place, 9 points clear of relegation and 6 points shy of the promotion places, though they can't go up to the 2. Bundesliga.

Richards played 90, seemingly at CB.

Glad to hear he played at CB.

Does Bayern sometimes loan their higher performing academy players when there’s too much depth to the first team?

Bayern rarely promotes players to the first team regardless.

It looks like they have 5 players out on loan right now, across the first team, II team, and U19s.

    From the U19s:

Alex Andersson, who was ok last season and looks to be back in Sweden recovering from an injury.

Jakob Mayer, the U19 backup goalkeeper.

    From II:

Franck Evina, who was a rotational player for them in the Regionalliga last season, and is out on loan to another 3.Liga team.

Kan Caratas, who seems to be perpetually injured and is at a Regionalliga Bayern club.

    From the first team:

Adrian Fein, who spent last season on loan with Jahn Regensburg and is on loan with Hamburg now. Seems like they view him as too good for the third-tier, but not up to Bayern first-team standards, so he fits that "good, but not quite good enough" scenario you brought up.

The answer to your question, based on this season, appears to be, "yeah, sometimes, but they tend not to loan out very many players at all."

It makes sense for first-team integration. Because Bayern dominates so many matches, they can keep guys around and give them spot minutes with the first team without risking much. I'm thinking of how they used Zirkzee earlier this season, or how they integrated Davies.

So for Richards, I think the road forward is more time with Bayern II. If he continues to do well there, he'll get some surprise (emphasis here - I don't think we'll see them coming much in advance) rotational minutes with the first team, bounce back and forth for a bit, and then either establish himself with the first team (not super likely because it's Bayern) or use those first-team opportunities as a showcase to be sold.

Richards has become one of the most important youth players the US has abroad IMO due to his potential and lack of talent at the position overall. We really need this guy to become the real deal. We are hurting at CD... we have a lot of tall players that lack elite pace and tackling skills. We need to get more athletic at that position in a hurry. The chances that Richards actually gets promoted to the BM senior team is remote... probably best case scenario aside from the unlikely is that he finishes the season strong for BM2 and gets loaned out to a team like Schalke.

At this point, I’d think about a transfer if a team like Schalke came knocking and he could start for them.

are we really at risk of overrating richards? seems like the bayern faithful dont see much of anything there. hard to imagine he walks into the xi of any non relegation bundesliga team

Possibly... but man, I watched that whole u20 World Cup. In my opinion, at least, he was clearly the best center defender in that tournament and looked like he was already playing at that elite level.

Truthfully, If I was Richards, I’d go ahead and push for a transfer to a club like Hamburg or Stuttgart - clubs that might could use a young buck like him and also likely will stay up once they get back into the Bundesliga.1

He needs to transfer to any Bundesliga 1 team that will play him... just don't go to Werder, Fortuna or Paderborn. Those teams look done and dusted at this point. I guess I could see Werder or Fortuna finding a way to win a couple more games than Mainz in order to save their season... but it doesn't look all that likely... which is bad news for Sargent, Morales and Steffen. I wonder what will happen to those players if their teams are relegated?.? At any rate, getting promoted to Bayern 1 is a near pipe-dream for him... he needs to get minutes at a higher level.

I agree about how he looked at the WC, but I also thought EPB had all the tools to be a world-class CB based on his U-20 performances.

i still remember zagadou when france was desperately looking for the equalizer in the u20s. he started marauding forward and looked like a guy on a different planet. now he’s worth 30+ million

I’ve learned to take this source with a grain of salt, but it would be encouraging if true.

I don’t expect Richards to make it at Bayern - it’s such a high bar - but there’s a significant difference in the average trajectory of a fringe Bayern first teamer who never quite made it and that of a guy who is an average reserve team player. If Richards proves to be the former, it is good news in my book.

This guy is a fraud. Go read his tweets. He just posts general “information” he has no sources or anything. Even this tweet is saying “Chris trained with first team (he has done this repeatedly) he might’ve been in this weeks match day squad. But he won’t be. So an appearance could happen in the future”

again, this account shouldn’t be posted as a source.

Pretty impressed with Richards' track record this season with Bayern II. He has played the full 90 in all 20 games he has started including the last 14 in a row.

Richards went 90 in at CB as they won 2-0

Bayern II have improved and are in the thick of things. 8th place with 41 points. 4th place has 42 points. 2nd and 3rd have 44 points and MSV Duisburg sit on top with 47
