Started in Baltic Sea Cup match:

Sebastian Bönig, the first-team assistant coach, led the travelling party in Sweden. He lined up with squad players Lennard Maloney, Julius Kade and Maurice Opfermann Arcones, whilst Laurenz Dehl was also given a starting place. Fresh after signing his first professional deal, Leo Oppermann wore Union’s yellow goalkeeping shirt between the sticks. The Swedish team started brightly, but Union made a better impression towards the end of the half. In the final play before the break, the ball broke to Kade but the former Hertha youngster couldn’t hit the net from close range.

    They lost 2-1.

    currently on trial in Austria.

Union Berlin: Trial training "get to know each other"
Maloney in St. Pölten - also Ujah is missing
In the summer, Bundesliga rookie 1. FC Union Berlin wanted to lend their own Lennard Maloney to give the talent the chance to play practice. Nothing came of it. After club information, the 20-year-old now plays in Austria.
Maloney, active since 2012 for the Köpenicker, therefore currently participates in the Austrian first division St. Pölten on training - "get to know," as Union manager Oliver Ruhnert said on Wednesday. Whether this results in a change in the new year, when the transfer window reopens, is "open", continues Ruhnert.

also mention his failed stints for whatever reasons to RL club RW Essen and 3rd Liga club Meppen.

his Union contract only lasts until 2021, so basically in Summer could be crucial for him. So yeah he needs to go on Winter loan (assuming no permanent switch) wherever to at least get some competitive games. Has only played 1 competitive non youth game from April 2018-present (almost 2 years.....), everything else is friendly games. One of those players which was delayed pro career due to school and the Union Berlin team having too many cbs.

2 days ago played full match for Union U21 in Baltic Sea Cup 3-2 win over Aalborg BK. Last game of this Cup is Nov 26.

Baltic Sea Cup and International Break friendlies is likely the only match practice he gets between now and Winter. That really is the - about no II team.....

The defender does not play in the professional squad, should be awarded in the summer, ideally to a third division. The 20-year-old played in July and August for rehearsal West regional league RW Essen and third division Meppen and last in the Austrian first division SV St. Pölten before. A deal did not come off. In winter, a new start could be taken.

St. Pölten could become an option for Maloney
"Of course I want to play, but where that will be and when and how, I do not know, it's not clear yet," said Maloney, who also lacks the rhythm of the game because of his graduation in the spring of this year for a year and a half. "Sure, you bite your ass a bit because you think, what if I trained properly for the one year he graduated, but then I say that to me School was and is important for the future and I try to make the most of the situation, "said Maloney, for whom St. Pölten could become an option from January. "I trained there for a week, we said we stay in touch, we still are," the youngster said.

not surprising, a year and a half is to big of a break and sounds like if he stays in Germany it's 3rd Liga loan.

    Maloney? "It didn't look good"
To make matters worse, Union had one injured man. Defender Lennard Maloney (20) suffered a left knee injury and needed to be replaced. After the final whistle, coach Fischer could not say how serious the injury was. "At least it didn't look good," said the 53-year-old.

feel bad for him, that could make it unlikely he gets loaned out or he could be out for awhile. Either way he risks barely playing for like 2 years.....

Union talent Maloney: Bulgaria instead of the USA?
For the past six months, 1. FC Union Berlin has been looking for a club for youngsters Lennard Maloney. After trial training in summer with West regional league RW Essen and third division SV Meppen and in autumn in Austria with St. Pölten, a move to the USA has now been shattered. For that it could go to Bulgaria now.

After a transfer to the United States has been done (for now), the Bulgarian first division club Dunav Ruse is back in focus. The club from the border town to Romania on the Danube is 11th in the 14th division and starts in the middle of February in the second half of the season.

sounds like he was very close to playing in USA but now Bulgaria is closing in. That's what happens when you barely play for almost 2 years, it doesn't look good that he failed tryouts at RL, 3rd Liga and Austrian 1st division club.

seems to be in Bulgaria to do his trial training.

if he fails this, than man it really looks bad for him.

come on the 90+3 min to see off the massive 1-0 win to take the club out of the relegation zone.

maybe he'll play more the farther they are from the relegation. Unless injuries happen, would be surprising if they change their XI.
