If he was just a goal scorer then I'd be worried, Morelos goal scoring is a small part of his game he's very, very good at a lot of other stuff. He's got lots of goals and assists, and is consistently adding lots in other areas, I'm sure that is part of the reason CQ has liked him, not simply because he has a bunch of goals. Jhon Cordoba is not a better target man then Morelos, Morelos is an exceptional #9 because of his hold up play, being good in the air is one part of target play but its not all of it.

*I think Jhon should get a chance to play with us, he's done really well and I don't want to knock him. I've seen more of Morellos so could be wrong on Jhon.

I agree with the first part about his game and the other stuff. But he is getting cold and was not even called up during a FIFA date last fall I assume due to his suspensions which are a black mark against him. I think he has to be hot and in form to nullify that negative part of his game..

I obviously disagree with the part about Cordoba. Cordoba takes up a lot of space and is very physical similar to what Duvan does for us, has decent movement off the ball and has been playing very well in the German league against better competition the last couple months. From what I have seen of Morelos he cannot start for Queiroz as a #9 and be successful next month.
Cordoba has the tools to have a better chance in my opinion.

I edited my post, but Morelos can absolutely start and be successful for us, he's very, very good as a 9 moves really well, plays people in well, dribbles and draws contact very well and also gets into good goal scoring areas, he's already at a young age a very complete 9.

I just do not see it. He has been very wasteful and has missed sitters for club and country and is known as a guy who can miss the easy ones and make difficult ones.

I personally do not want to see him starting against pesky Venezuela or Chile. Not only cause I think he is not going to be a good target man against them but I am also concerned he would get cards in those tough heated battles.

He's torched very good teams in the Europa Leauge, he can compete at a high level but every striker is going to miss the odd goal. He would be a risk in heated games, its his biggest weakness but if he stays on track he's likely to be a long term player for us. I'd imagine Duvan is given every chance to start.

I agree. I can't argue against this post.

I just don't think he is ready to start next month (especially getting cold at current form). I will feel very uncomfortable until he does well and will hope he proves me wrong.

Now if Cucho starts with Morelos I think they both will have hat tricks against Venezuela and Chile!
Gotta leave this thread on an optimistic note. :D:ROFLMAO:

Another not-so-good performance and he was subbed. These are moments every striker go through. Sometimes those bad moments last long, sometimes not. No need to make a huge deal out of it. But this moment can obviously cost him his NT-spot.

I don't think Morelos has the tendency to miss easy goals. He just happens to score lots of difficult goals so that people start to pay attention on those easy ones he misses.

He has gotten better as he matures.

However. on the Rangers message boards he has a reputation of "missing sitters" that still lingers.

And for Colombia he has missed many of his chances. Some of which make me scratch my head as to how he did not bury them.

    True.
But this is like a tough University which is run like a business. A what have you done for me lately kind of business.

And in November against a crappy Ecuador he missed some chances that he should have done much , much better with.

Not saying to judge his whole career trajectory on the misses, mind you.

But I am saying going into crucial official matches in 2020 it makes me say he has a lot of things to prove in yellow if he wants to be counted upon as starter.

If Morelos would have scored a hat trick against Ecuador, that would have meant nothing.

He better make his chances when he gets them in 2020 to make this statement by you even more true.

If he keeps on missing though then people will see it as a trend. Right or wrong, the perception will be he just can't score consistently for Colombia and is wasteful..

As I said previously though I hope he proves me wrong if he does start. I just will be skeptical until he scores.

I haven't said anything on who should start the next matches. Pretty much all our strikers are living a bad moment, so it's a gamble anyway. I think Duvan is still the first choice, but I'm not expecting much from him unless he improves at Atalanta quickly.

    Ah.

Well, the whole conversation I was having was based on my confidence on him starting which is why the inconsistency and missing easy chances was emphasized.

you have to also recognize that he's had a target on his back in the SPL for a while. Sometimes deserved but sometimes there's a lot of other futbol BS that he has to contend with and it may be finally getting to him ...the refs, the media, the dirty players trying to get him to react, the BLATANT racism, a freaking guy under his car that he tried to chase down...these are things that are not typical and may be getting to his head. That being said I still feel he fights and fights and fights for every ball. Him and Borre are the modern futbol style strikers that are relentless.

Morelos will always put in a shift and will work his ass all over the field and unlike a lot of younger players he's already a master at how to use his body to shield and manipulate defenders into drawing fouls and keeping possession. It's really rare to see young guys so savy in that area, with his back to goal or running at defenders he gives them nightmares, even if a guy like that doesn't get a goal drawing fouls, and yellows for defenders helps a lot especially on a team like ours that can be deadly on set pieces.

You can see how important Morelos is to Rangers because in this game vs Braga playing without him they can't really hold up the ball or keep much possession. Their whole game has to change and they can't get up the field, or bring their fullbacks into play much which is a big part of how they play even on the road.

According to what I have read it is because Porto is playing tomorrow at home too and it would be too much of a traffic hazard to have them play simultaneously.
