I really liked finding out that Fiorinelli appeared to be really proud of the girls' academy and their accomplishments.
Quake’s U-17 captain Brandon Zelaya has been selected to play for Mexico”s U-18 team that is playing in Spain.

The Quakes academy had a scrimmage game against Sac Republic and Silicon Valley Soccer Academy today. I wasn’t there but one of the academy parents said the Quakes U-19 team had a trialist at left back that was really good. Natural left footer that got up and down really well. Supposedly he played for Chivas youth team in Mexico. If the Academy is attracting youth talent from other countries, that might be a sign that they could very well build out a competitive talent pipeline to the first team.
1 of 20 (in a 26 team league, but with many of those being recent expansion teams).... to quote Chernobyl "not great, not terrible" The Athletic: Parchman: The 20 most exciting Development Academy prospects right now Antonio Leone — Defender, LAFC Moses Nyeman — Midfielder, D.C. A few have already made debuts, and Walls looks like he might be the next to get his shot at the first team. At 17, he is still a precocious, developing center back, but there’s little question he has the steel to make it at the next level. He looked tremendous in turns for the Quakes’ U-19 team in 2019, and he has seen time with various U.S. youth national teams as well. Especially with his club’s recent emphasis on youth, Walls has what seems like a good shot to crack the first team sooner rather than later. In the meantime, he’ll remain a significant academy prospect.
Looks like the Quakes just added a new national team player to their academy. http://sjeq.ussoccerda.com/sam/teams/index.php?team=12079740&player=1028989139 He played at De Anza Force last year then moved to SKC this season. I’m told his father was the goalkeeping coach at Force. The Quakes now have national team goalkeepers at the U-23, U-16 and U-15 levels.
Wow 3 Gk’s! That is great news! Would love to see at least one of them break through! Let’s just hope Vega doesn’t pull a Jon Busch and play until he is 40!
There are a lot of positives going on at the Quakes academy, but wanted to highlight coach Luciano Fusco after seeing the two teams today. Clear identity and playing style from these two groups. Very encouraging. https://t.co/vDsXIQhwo0— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) February 18, 2020
Sebastian Carbajal put on a show in the second half for @QuakesAcademy U15 against Galaxy. Local team could not stop him. #gacup— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) February 17, 2020
SoccerWire ranks the Quakes academy as the #7 boys club in the country. De Anza Force ranked 20th, one of the few non-MLS clubs in the Top 20. https://www.soccerwire.com/news/bre...-top-100-boys-soccer-clubs-for-february-2020/
The Quakes girls academy is ranked 10th. https://www.soccerwire.com/news/soccerwire-top-100-girls-soccer-clubs-february-2020/
Very happy with the development of our academy. I remember how painful it was for us to languish in disgust with it, but better late than never to start producing a robust academy. I will freely admit i never expected to see Chicago Fire on that list. That is a surprise to me. I know they were another club that was pretty late on the homegrown and academy train.
Wow just behind Seattle Sounders (there were a series of articles about how they completely revamped their youth setup in recent years) and ahead of the New York Red Bulls is impressive!

Nothing wrong with that. Either he gets replaced by an academy player with little impact on our cap. Or he plays until he’s 40, meaning he’s a great GK and we can trade or get something of value from the GK talent we currently have.
I overheard a rumor that Emi Ochoa will be in Reno over the summer. That raises my eyebrows a bit since I don’t think he’s even 15 yet. He hasn’t played up from his age group even a single game yet.
Someone told me that the Quake’s U-17 team is taking GK Damian Alguera to their away game against Sac Republic tomorrow. This is his first time on the game day roster. Maybe he’ll get his first minutes in a Quake’s uniform.
