Okay, let's look at a couple of facts (The first three are for context purposes): Fact 1. South Bend is 25.4%. One out of every 3.9 residents of South Bend lives in poverty. Fact 2. The median African American household income level in South Bend is $14,000 lower than African-American national average and they hold an income poverty rate of 40.2%, which is almost two times higher than the country average for African Americans. Fact 3. South Bend eviction rate 3 times the national average Fact 4: Community advocates in poorer, often African-American or Hispanic neighborhoods began to complain that the city was being too aggressive in fining property owners over code enforcement. The city leveled fines that added up to thousands of dollars, in certain cases, to pressure homeowners to make repairs or have their houses demolished. It also charged homeowners for the cost of tearing down those houses. Fact 5: During Buttigieg’s tenure as mayor from 2012 to '18, black residents were 4.3 times more likely to be arrested for possessing marijuana than white people. Fact 6: Pete demoted Police Chief Darryl Boykins after he presented recordings of local police officers being racist. According to former South Bend Police Cheif Boykins’ eventual racial-discrimination lawsuit, Buttigieg’s chief of staff, Mike Schmuhl, “with Buttigieg’s full and conspiratorial agreement,” told Boykins the feds were investigating him and the only way for Boykins to avoid prosecution was to resign as South Bend police chief. In testimony that did not become public until this past September, Schmuhl later admitted the feds never directly threatened to indict Boykins. What happened the officiers who were racist on tape: Captain Brian Young went on to lead the county’s Special Victims Unit. Dave Wells became the commander of the County’s drug unit. Tim Corbett, the county’s homicide commander, ran for Sheriff. Steve Richmond retired and moved to Michigan. Fact 7: Pete compared racism against African-Americans to his struggle with being gay. Fact 8: During the police racism controversy in South Bend, Pete uses the popular right-wing slogan "All Liver Matter". Fact 9: Pete lied about South Carolina African-Americans supporting his "Douglas Plan" Fact 10: Pete's campaign claimed that African-Americans didn't support him because they are homophobic, not because of his policies. Fact 11: When Buttigieg became mayor in 2012, the SBPD was 11 percent black (29 of 244 officers). There were 28 black officers in 2013; 26 in 2014, and by the time Buttigieg announced his run for president, the South Bend police force was six percent black, with 15 black officers. Fact 12: Pete refused to meet with a group of 10 African-American police officers who accused South Bend Police department of discrimination Fact 13: Pete said “Kids” from “lower-income, minority neighborhoods” don’t have “someone they know personally who testifies to the value of education.” Fact 14: Pete lied about support from black leaders again Here are a couple of facts you can review. Your free to brush them off simply (most will), but don't claim that Pete's actions/inactions during his time as mayor don't display a clear pattern of either disregard or strong contempt for the low-income and minority communities of South Bend. Depends what you mean by “primary”. If Bernie goes into the election with only a plurality of delegates, I’m not sure he comes out of the convention as the Dem candidate...

Holy ********, was that evident a few months ago. I was at a Q and A session with the then head of the convention. The dedicated time for the entire session about 90 minutes and had a few others there as well, along with three reporters from the local NPR station. But she took somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes to tell us how she was one of us because she graduated from Univ Wisconsin. And then she tried to say she was a small business person. And she had not plan on how to reach out to the Black community (I asked that directly) and didn't really address any of the other minority communities. She also said that local vendors need to go to a website to sign up for possible contracts in the future. It was a stated in a way of "we are The Convention, you need to come to us." She got booted in November/early December, but man was she both arrogant and ignorant.
