Not at all. People liked Obamacare and they just didn't know it yet too. Big structural change is scary and unpopular, but when people actually look at how their lives are improved by the change, it suddenly becomes untouchable. Again, Medicare in its current form is the third rail of politics; very few seniors don't have good things to say about Medicare. Obamacare is also starting to merge with that third rail too; people screamed at their representatives at townhalls not to repeal it. But it wasn't that way at all until it was passed and people started to see how it benefits them. Same principle with Medicare For All.
If we engage purely in the likely possible, we might as well say we have no plan to improve health care because McConnell isn't going to deliver ten votes for us to pass anything. So why not fight for the right choice and fail rather than fight for a watered-down version and still fail?!
Source/link? ("I pulled it from my ass" doesn't count, obviously.) (Also, this is what worries me about Bernie...his campaign from top to bottom oozes self righteousness, and that turns off voters. He's not Jesus, and his followers aren't the Apostles. Get over yourselves.)
Dude, do you realize what you are saying is totally irrational? That does not make any sense whatsoever.
They are the same thing, because Bernard knows he will not have those 60 votes. He will be extremely lucky to have a bare majority
Don't even need to go that far. M4A does not even have the support of the majority of the Democrats in the Senate and even less in the House. Klobuchar herself said 2/3 of the democratic caucus does not support it. If Bernie is the nominee, we will see a lot of congressional candidates openly announcing their opposition to M4A. It will be an albatross.
I need you to show me what's wrong with that thought process? Do you deny that Obamacare is now way more popular than it was when it was implemented? Do you deny that Medicare is extremely popular? Where have I gone wrong? Please show me don't just patronize me.
NO ONE will have 60 votes. Again, I ask, if we purely examine health care policy from the realm of the possible, why not simply not have a plan to reform it at all if that's what we're going to run up against? Starting point proposals have to be aspirational or else no one will believe in it. Period.
I am not patronizing you, you wrote " People like Medicare For All, they just don't know it yet". It does not make any sense and it is simply a ridiculous thing to write. Nobody should have to explain that to you.
It does not make sense because you take it out of context and don't engage the substance of the argument, Again, I ask, what about Obamacare? It was unpopular at first, but it is no longer unpopular upon actual implementation. Why? Because people see how it improves their lives upon implementation. I believe that Medicare For All would improve people's lives upon implementation. Why can't it go down a similar path in theory?
If Buttigieg is really getting less than 3% of the black voters, then he should end his campaign tonight
If he finishes 5th or 6th he should end his campaign, as should anyone else. We’ve all been told for a year, “wait for Nevada. It looks like America.” So, if he finishes 2nd or 3rd, there is no way he would or should get out. he also has the most aggressive and progressive policy platform for African Americans .... they just don’t know it yet.
he’s slowly beaten out Klobuchar for me as my favorite candidate, so I’m with you. But he’s getting so little support from African Americans that I don’t see how he’s viable.
A lot of text simply to state, "yeah it bad, but ********'em". You draw more issue with my statement than his horrific and destructive policies against the poor and persons of color. It's hilarious how you guys keep telling on yourselves, its so easy. For some reason calling out Pete out is more divisive than the destructive policy that specially targeted low-income and minority neighborhoods. Keep telling on yourself.
After Ava, Jeffrey Wright is getting swarmed by the Bros. I have to say they are really good at signal boosting though. Cool. Some Trump-like wanna-be authoritarian shit from the other end. Cool. Cool. https://t.co/eQSR5MC4Zd— Jeffrey Wright 🥜 (@jfreewright) February 22, 2020
His point is that people don't like new things they don't understand, but once they see how it actually works in their lives they'll like it, similar to Obamacare. Seemed pretty straightforward to me, whether or not it's actually correct.
I'm really sad about Warren's lack of traction in Nevada. I knew she probably didn't have much of a shot after a poor showing in New Hampshire, but I was hoping that her great debate showing would propel her to a better showing today. It really stings, because I think she was a much better candidate than Bernie, more pragmatic, less divisive. She would've made a great President.
I think the momentum is greater than anything the DNC can do (or leak)...at least until the convention... It’s why the campaign isn’t letting up. The supporters have embraced this “campaign like we are losing” mantra. I see stories of people donating their last dollar because he brings the “hope and change” they were told about a long time ago. Sanders’ campaign is a very personal one for many.... The lead going into the convention HAS to be unassailable
