JORDAN MORRIS SUPERSTAR I thought Jones blew that with his bad first touch (he kind of did) after Morris played a great pass to hi., but that was a good shot to force a tough save, and then great awareness by Morris to follow up. What a player he's turned into.
I don't know where his career will end up, but he has made more of himself than anyone could possibly have thought. Edit: And why didn't Morris just round the keeper?!!!
If he wants to try to be the Landon Donovan of the 2020s and become a legend in Seattle, that's fine by me. I don't know how well his game would translate to the good Euro leagues, but I'm enjoying the hell out of his play over the last year.
Silky from Maidana there, wonderful play, great assist. In a stark contrast to Delia's substitutions from the earlier match, it is ********ing crazy that Schmetzer hasn't made any 65 minutes into the first game of the season.
The injury may have been the best thing to happen to him. Pre-injury, he seemed like a great athlete who happened to play soccer. Now that he can't rely purely on speed, he's adapted and improved both his left foot and his tactical awareness immensely.
No one looked good in that sequence for the Sounders. All even on the scoreline, and the way it's going, I'd be surprised if someone didn't grab a winner.
That is on the Seattle #3. That ball should have been easily shepherded over the endline. What a blunder by him.
That is shambolic defending. Bad angle by the fb and doesn't keep a body on the winger. Then 18 over-runs the header attempt on a looped ball. Really a pet peeve when defenders miss easy clearance opportunities. Unccordination, mental laziness, or lack of poise. Shane O'Neill just sucks and I think always has. Whiffed on a couple headers already. Never gotten the fascination. Terrible pick-up by Seattle.
It's not all on the defense though---- aside from the Morris goal which was wonderful, the 2nd half has really been dominated by Olimpia. They've been putting pressure on Seattle the entire 2nd half. It's too much to ask of any team to just park the bus and defend for 45 minutes. This team needs to learn how to hold on to the ball and play ball control. If you dont dictate the flow of the game then you are the one who is being forced to play the opposition's style of game.
That might be the most surprising thing about this game. I feel like you never see less than 6 in the second half of a CCL game.
He just thinks run as fast as possible in a straight line pretty much no matter the situation. There he should be holding up or getting to the outside.
OK result for Seattle, but have to be a little disappointed in the fade. Part of that was w/ Morris wearing down. Plays hard and takes a beating. Also took the foot of the gas, and hard to turn it back on, amid pressure. Seattle has a few weak leaks they should sort out - Arreaga, O'Neill, etc. They may be suspect at the back. Don't know about the other additions that weren't seen. Plenty of options in the front 6. Like Leyva's polish at 16 already.
Well it ended as a tie and Seattle will get out of there and go back home considering themselves fortunate--all's well that ends well. Hopefully on the return leg they will be able to control the game better.
