Definitely like what Heitz and his team have done thus far (with the caveat that we haven't seen these guys plays yet). The onus shifts to Wicky in a big way now. Getting his team to play his system, immediately and well, well, that's not going to be easy.
I look forward to talking tactics as the season progresses. I felt like we haven’t been able to do that since Klopas.
MLS gives out awards and stuff for this kind of thing before MLS Cup every season if I'm remembering right. Have to be in contention. Today's announcement got a good laugh out of me.
Interestingly and at least to me quite surprisingly Collier has apparently been doing quite well in preseason games. Sapong as well (less surprising). Collier Part 2 is..better?
I’m not disagreeing with you, but there’s times you could say that about Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo too. At least Messi passes well.
Mentioning Elliot Collier in the same breath, paragraph, thread or anywhere as Messi and Ronaldo is disingenuous and ridiculous. The only things they have in common is that all are mammals, walk upright and earn a living by kicking a soccer ball. I doubt Messi has been "the worst player on the pitch" since he was 7 years old and then only when player with a U-15 team. I just don't think "there are times you could say that about" either of them.
There are definitely times Ronaldo sort of disappears for long stretches of the game, but then explodes for 2 goals in 5 minutes or something. This is especially true with Portugal.
Sure but Collier would easily be the worst player on the pitch in these games if that one opportunity didn’t happen. I do not see those opportunities happening consistently for much longer. I’m rooting for him, but he’s more or less the same as before to be honest.
Sure, but "the worst player on the pitch"?!?! That was the comment, not whether the player disappears, all attacking players (except, maybe some CAMs) do that.
Stojanovic done. Gimenez likely. AM seems a bit weak but doable. Need depth at CB, and a backup winger. No big name(s) that will fill SF but not too bad*. So many unknowns though. I've never have heard of any of these new signings. But I like the youth movement. I think this club is going in the right direction, which is the best I have said in the 4 years I've been a STH. *Pending on field results.
This flurry of recent activity has me a lot more excited about the season. Can Wicky get these guys to come together quickly?
I agree 100%. To paraphrase from a great movie, “I love the smell of competence in the morning. It smells like ... victory!” This all feels like, dare I say it, a plan.
Chemistry is tricky. Very tricky. Especially, with a stuff-ton of new players. A new manager (system) means our vets are kind of starting over too. But we're in MLS (and preseason), so I choose to be optimistic. Plus, the dark, dark cloud is finally gone!
It's also a league where you can have a shaky, inconsistent start, and then get hot late and still be in a position to make the playoffs, and potentially win.
