As to the mix up in venue locations I'll take half the blame: I copied info from the MLSsoccer.com web site for match info at the top of the page and they listed the match as taking place in the capital. No sense correcting that error now so... Onward we march.
Well, it's not like media coverage of this match was overwhelming. Media outlets covering this game were probably also using the same reporters for every other CCL game of the round. And nobody outside of Honduras is familiar with any venues in Honduras to begin with.
To be fair, apparently San Pedro Sula is a rough town. I am glad we got out of there with a draw and a road goal. HUP!
One more day until we're home-away-from-home at Kennesaw! Looks like we'll get to play with more, though not all, of our roster pieces for this game. Given our defense in Central America, I'll give the visitors a goal on some sort of bone-headed mix-up, but we'll take 3 of them from Josef, Rosetto, and a defender, and Atlanta wins the tie 4-2.
Will be doing previews tonight. Big fear at the moment is weather because a sloppy pitch wil negate some of Atlanta's advantages, I feel. I want a fast pitch and clean setting for Pity and Co. to work some magic. Plus more fans will turn out if it's dry.
Not sure why you say this. According to Doug Roberson, Rosetto still doesn't have his visa and Robinson, Bello, and Castillo are still injured. Castro also doesn't have his paperwork. Really the only additional chess piece available to FdB is Jake Mulraney. Regardless, I like your prediction of a 3-1 scoreline. Now if it would only stop raining. https://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-...tagua-slightly-better/x628ky1qk2qKqIzYVSllwJ/
So I'm a little weirded out because I just watched Evil Genius on Netflix. Makes me wary about being in the dating pool thinking I'll fall prey to some whack-job with a history of boyfriends meeting "accidental" deaths. Boy could I use a distraction right now...
R16: Leg 2 - Atlanta United vs. CD Motagua Fifth Third Bank Stadium - Kennesaw February 25 - 8:00 PM ET FS1 AJC.com United home page here. MLSsoccer.com preview here. ATLUTD.com preview here. We know Robinson, Castillo, Rosetto, Bello and Castro are not available for Atlanta. We also know the rain should stop Tuesday morning but it's likely to still be chilly (mid 50's) by game time. Hopefully the field crew will have time to get the pitch into prime condition before the match. Atlanta will want to play a more controlled passing game and take advantage of their speed out wide, which can't fully happen on a sloggy, choppy patch o' grass. They'll also want desperately to move the ball around to give Pity room to be creative up-front, which again can't be worked as effectively amidst the puddles. Expect Motagua to go for broke early to see if they can ramp up the pressure on Atlanta and use the away-goals rule to their set-up; Remember, draws at more than 1-1 gives them the tie. The question is how fatigued will they be after a weekend match and the long-flight to the A-T-L? And will Atlanta be distracted knowing they have to play a cold road match this weekend as the MLS season kicks off? FdB says the team is focused and hungry, and the injuries means some guys who will feature against Motagua know they can go all out in a rare start and chance to show their talents. If they can stay disciplined, as well, that bodes well for Atlanta. Plus, chatter has it the team is relishing the prospect of a R8 match-up with a prominent LMX brand... 3-1, Atlanta wins and we all march into Music City with Five Stripes fever.
(Sad emoji) Yeah, I posted before I'd read FdB's presser. If it's pouring rain during the game, I still think we win, but it could be 5-4 or 1-0. Rain games are fun, but never terribly predictable. Even though our quality would really shine on a fast pitch using the wings, I still think we're better than them up the spine of the field at every position. So even if it's a slog in the mud, I like our prospects. If it's muddy, though, I'm probably not starting Larentowicz. Or if we do start him, we sub him very early, like at 55'. He's probably my favorite player skill-wise for that type of game, but he's also the oldest legs out there. It's a mid-week game on a school night in probably foul weather, so if the crowd sucks I won't be too alarmed. If it wasn't all the way on the other side of Atlanta, I'd be there myself rain or shine.
Come on, man! I've made five drives from almost 200 miles away! Probably going to Nashville Saturday if I can get a ticket- that's almost a commute by comparison. I'd be leery of Big Red slipping on the wet ground and ending his career. Just hoping we all get out of thie healthy.
High 50s, cloudy but no rain. Perfect footy weather. Several of my son's RDS mates are escorting the players onto the pitch pre-match. But he's hardcore and prefers going to training tonight instead of watching.
Oh, I'm a full season ticket holder from over 100 miles away, so I'm not above driving. But I'm not sure I could even get there by kickoff after the work day today in Kennesaw.
I'm with Sabre on this one - the distance is one thing but the nature of the traffic getting to that location is another beast all together. So I'll be at Pizza Azzurri tonight with the Suburban Ultras. Vamos Atlanta!
I’ll be on my couch in Greenville, SC but rooting all the same. Wife is already asleep... so we’ll see how much I get yelled at tonight.
Hyndman's first move with the ball is too predictable and sometimes too slow. Gotta start thinking what he's gonna do with it before he gets it. Josef needs to push up higher.
20' and Pity gets taken down in the box. He was looking for it but there was true contact. Shoulda been a PK. Josef misses a clear header on ensuing corner.
