playing in China wouldn't have won him a spot either. Regardless, all that is in the past now. WC is in the past and now we he has 4 years to establish himself. I think that he would have won himself a spot eventually, with the WC gone he could have stayed and taken his time. Doesn't matter now though, whats done is done.

Mina's situation is not comparable. He's at a huge team with very high standards. I think had he gone to a smaller team he'd have been playing consistently.

Its the same coach and he clearly didn't think Martinez was worth a ton. I'm ok with Roger cutting his loses and moving to somewhere he'll play, especially after missing half a season on the bench players need to be on the field at his stage. Somewhere else in Europe would have been better but I think for a striker getting a bunch of goals and potentially getting into the NT is a good thing for his situation.

Nice goal, would like to see him called into the next friendly. He and Borja would really help if they get up some momentum.

Uribe assisted the second goal from a corner kick and Ibargüen scored the third via penalty. Ibargüen should also be considered for the NT over "Izzy"

We are so quick to dismiss the young. One bad game and find a replacement. I like Izzy, I'm not ready to quit on him.

From what I saw of Ibarguen, either the defender on that side of the field was horrible or he flat out ran wild around them. Ibarguen's crossing was just OK. We have to keep an eye on him, he is definitely entertaining. The Mexican announcers love Roger. The toughness combined with speed. Uribe was semi quiet.

Izquierdo isn't that young (26), and he has had several bad games not one. Not giving up on him but haven't seen anything positive so far, loses the ball way too easily and hasn't been able to exploit his strength which is supposedly his speed, but like I said before hope he improves.

I am going to look at it simply.
Once a new manager comes in that person is responsible for evaluating the talent and seeing which player is best fit for their system and vision.

I would hope all the players mentioned in this thread have a chance to show what they can do. Izzy could be a better fit in a certain system , Ibargüen in another system.
Or they both can contribute within a system. Or they both could be useless.

I am going to sound like Crzd here and say hopefully a large group of players get called up and/.or we have some non FIFA friendlies so that the new staff can evaluate things thoroughly.

I think the microciclos where very useful, they should be implemented post any major tournament imo, especially at the beginning of a new cycle.

Or just NT training camps like US does. It’s would only be for domestic league players but for teams not wanting to do that during the season

Your player gets called up = he is worth more. Gets called consistently and it’s free marketing for your team. Maybe teams won’t be forced to send their players to Nacional to make jumps to Europe any more.

Mina has the best strike rate out of the bunch, should we play him at striker?

This guy has been in VERY good form for America lately. This season he's playing as the 9 a lot more, and even though he's not scoring a ton, he's such a force holding up the ball for America.

Obviously Duvan needs to see minutes as our main guy up front, but we shouldn't forget about Roger playing up front either by himself or in a 442.

He assisted Benedetti yesterday, and he had a gol and an assist against Atlanta United midweek:

Good to see he is keeping up the good work.

Although with Diaz playing the way he is at Porto I rather see him get a start in September.

    And then there is Muriel.

    (Good to see there's options.)

Does anyone know the full story of why Roger is not allowed to play for America?
The only thing I came across was that there may have been confusion about him wanting to play in Europe? He must have done something to really piss off the brass????

From what I've read in the press, he's made it a point to communicate to America that he wanted to play in Europe. While there were some opportunities that came calling for Roger, they were all for 'loans only' and America refused to negotiate. America has deep pockets and like it or not a huge traditional club that felt hey commanded respect and honor. This was the back and forth. Inter (Miami) apparently made the player/club an offer but Roger didnt want to go to MLS. Now that he's been unofficially blacklisted (DT Herrera has a huge ego), any option may be a better option than just rotting away his best years. He's now likely to miss qualifiers and possibly Copa as he's getting no minutes and relegated to reserves and other BS taunts.

    Sigh....

one article I read was that Herrera was instructed by higher ups not to play Roger at all. Sounds like that is smoke and mirrors if his ego is that big.

I refer to my post in the other folder about how/why it seems that many of players wind up in wacky situations with their club? Are they (players and their agents/reps) just lacking that professional/business mentality?

Ring Ring Ring..... You have to remember that most professional futboleros (specially in latin america) come from extremely poor conditions. Futbol was their ticket out. Unfortunately, while chances are most don't make it to the pros, there are plenty of predatory decisions that are made on behalf of these players even before they reach any type of stardom. In fact, I recall Roger's stint in Argentina was a real low point. He was truly taken advantage of while in Argentina and China ended up being a way to make ends meet at a point where he had little to no resources. I think he's dug himself a bad hole and I foresee more pain his way as America has to reap some type of money for their investment.
