The one thing that I will agree with on some of those gross comments to the MLSPA statement, they said all the stuff that was leaked was false but didn't give anything factual about Jans' conduct. They cleared nothing up, besides that their stance is that racism is bad.

They threw FCC under the bus big time with that comment though. They might have to have a player coach as it may be really hard to get anyone to take that job right now.

I’m sure Nijmkamp (sp?) will find a new random Dutch guy to come in for a bit.

I'm a little pissy the statement didn't use empowerment. That's what I needed for word salad bingo.

I didnt read the comments but that same thing bothered me as well.

OK, so the story isnt at all what's being said. It's all a filthy lie. Terrible, terrible, terrible.

The real story? None of our business.

Sorry, it doesnt work that way.

At this point, they might as well just make Yoann Damet (the assistant coach who was the interim before Ron Jans and is the interim again now) the official head coach and let him have the whole season, for stabilities sake.

Cincinnati is a terrible place this coach should count his blessings he gets to leave. There is something in the water there turns people into stuck up assholes who are dumb as a box of ricks. I have to go there for two weeks every year. Worst two weeks of the year. I hope the Ohio River rises up and washes that city out to sea.

The charges seem excessive. He wrecked his uninsured SUV then immediately applied for insurance on it and filed a claim. The insurance company investigated and denied the claim. That should be the end of it. If he didn't pay in full for the SUV, he was probably in breach of his loan or lease agreement by not having current coverage but that's not a criminal offense.

Is FCC still considered a pro soccer team? I'm beginning to think this is performance art.

I basically agree, but fraud is fraud however you slice it, and in this case the facts seem to easily support theft by deception.

Seems to me it amounts to mostly a bad error in judgement by a young kid who screwed up and let his insurance lapse.

The real question, to me, is how this is the league's business.

I mean, all it takes is Zelarayan going down with an injury and Diaz gone w/ Costa Rica and maybe even Etienne gone w/ Haiti. All of a sudden, Santos has to slide over to the middle, Mohktar has to get on one wing and....

    enter Mattocks. haha.

Porter gets to get more of the gang together. Those who he "trusts".

Bez pulls another Adi, snatching up an experienced depth piece FCC wants rid of and makes them pay his wage.

    I'm just joking. I think...

Charging him with two separate felonies for the same act is definitely excessive, and setting a $50,000 bond, which is greater than the alleged value of the car is also excessive, even if they only require him to post 10%. If the insurance company suffered no loss and Mattocks has no criminal record, this would be a personal recognizance bond and a quick offer of diversion in many counties in many states. He's a professional soccer player with long established ties to the US, currently employed with an MLS team, charged with something that will be unlikely to result in actual jail time, so he's not likely to be a flight risk. We're not talking Roman Polanski here.

Of course, there are also completely ridiculous counties (I'm looking at you, Ashland Co., OH), where they will put a 20 year old in jail for 5 days for getting caught with an empty beer can, and then, 25 years later when he wants to get his conviction sealed, they require him to travel all the way from Japan where he currently lives to appear for a hearing, whereas other counties would allow him to have an attorney file the paperwork for the sealing and appear on his behalf, if they required an appearance at all (some courts will grant a sealing as a matter of course once a background check turns up no new convictions).

It shouldn't be the league's business until there's a conviction. I always have to warn clients that employers are free to hire or fire people for any reason if you're at will, or for cause if you're on a contract. But I always think it's BS when people lose their job or get suspended for getting charged for some petty offense or first time indiscretion that had nothing to do with work and there hasn't been a conviction.

I grow more weary of people who want to bring the full brunt of the law down on professional athletes and public figures who get charged with some of the same stuff that they or their family members have been charged with in the past. Sometimes now it's not even public figures. Now police departments regularly post photos of people online asking the public to help find this "suspect" in a crime, which concerned members of the public then share across social media, even though the person hasn't been charged with anything, and often the photos are grainy to the point where mistaken identity is a real issue. I have neighbors whose online personas are all about "law and order" and "keeping our community safe" who love to share this information online. But when it involves them and their family, they don't want anyone to know about it and try to handle it as quietly as possible. When you're at the courthouse every day, you end up finding out about the skeletons in everyone's closets without even trying. Biting one's tongue when someone goes off on a rant on pro athletes who are "thugs" and "criminals" at the backyard bbq is a part of the job, apparently.

If he actually collected the money and spent it, then sure, it's theft. I think his claim was denied though. We don't put insurance company employees in jail when they automatically or improperly deny a claim.

The league got involved when charges were filed.
