I can't tell if I love or hate the new LAFC jerseys. I think the sublimated striping on the chest makes it almost a little TOO 90s for my tastes.
Any idea if his kit in the standard keeper colors for this season or a Kobe tribute (looks like Lakers colors)?
The fact that Dejan Jakovic is starting in the CCL 4 years after playing 1 game in the Japanese second division and 3 years after slumming it with the Cosmos speaks to some truly awful squad construction at LAFC.
To me, Jakovic will always be the guy who got red carded in the first ever Philadelphia Union home game (the game winning goal coming on the ensuing free kick after his foul).
Rossi must think so, or he'd at least trot off the field, much less run. Instead he's wasting time, behind on the road (I admit 1-0 down after leg one in Leon would be a solid result).
When I think of the Union and red cards, my mind immediately goes to Toni Stahl, who they drafted at the age of 24 for their inaugural season. He started their first game, got a red card in the first half, and never played for them again. It's all just so Philadelphia.
Rais M'Bolhi is still only 33 years old, and could be playing for the Union for years to come. Pity that Curtin et. al. stood up against the owner and stopped playing that guy, as he was all kinds of entertaining (for non-Union fans at least).
Good lord, it is like LAFC wanted Leon to score again. Amazingly paltry resistance and more like just giving it to them repeatedly. Embarrassing series the last couple of minutes.
Nick Sac was NOT an owner of the Union, contrary to what he may have lead folks to believe. That move was one of the main reasons Ownership parted ways with him. Oooffff, that was an UGLY second goal to concede by LA....
And the quality on the LAFC bench, or lack thereof, is... kinda embarrassing. I know they're a little depleted because of injuries and call-ups, but the only forward they can bring in off the bench is Adrien Perez, who was playing indoor soccer 12 months ago?!
I love that they brought him back for their 10th anniversary "Homecoming Game" or whatever it was last season. Say what you will about Phiadelphia sports culture, but they know how to have fun and not take themselves too seriously. (Chicago sports could learn a thing or two from them).
Incredibly, he's not the only player in MLS history to get a red card on opening day of his rookie season and never appear in a MLS game again. I still remember seeing Ciaran O'Brien's first and last MLS appearance for Colorado. Are there any others?
The Red Bulls, despite how Metro that situation sounds, do not have any. But we did have Carlos Johnson in 2009, who got sent off v. Houston in 2009, served his suspension, started v. Kansas City, and got sent off again in the second minute. That was the record for fastest red card in MLS history until good ole Sheriff Joe Nasco got one after like, 35 seconds a few years later.
