Noticed Sessegnon didn’t even make the bench today but apparently Mourinho has hailed him as the next Ashley Cole. I’m sure I’ve kind of heard him saying similar about other young players in the past but their careers under him have never materialised.
He praised him but made a point of saying he is not ready to play left back. Wants to use him as a winger. I don't see him using him at all unfortunately. Hope I'm wrong.
So in other words, he’s hardly likely to play! Didn’t he say similar with the Chelsea kids! Unfortunately, don’t see much of a future for him under Mourinho.
He tried to sign him for Man U a number of times so think a bit early to be writing him off at Spurs under him - think he'll be fine as is athletic, a good finisher, smart positionally and can defend so will fit in fine in a wide role
Kinda worried Sessegnon is one of those early bloomers where at 16 he looks like next best player in the world at his position, but many things lead to another and he ends up being average. Nonetheless I still have faith he'll come around. I really think he just needs to stick to being a left-back, which is also his best pathway to the senior squad. All of a sudden Chilwell looks like our only decent option since Rose has dropped way off and Shaw can't ever stay fully fit.
Smith Rowe starts for Arsenal, maybe in years gone by when less talent was produced he would be seen as the golden boy but has gone quite under the radar considering his talent. I Would love to see him get a run of games.
Conor Gallagher has been recalled by Chelsea. A bit confusing though because they're looking at loaning him out again to Swansea. Did Chelsea not like Charlton using Gallagher further forward?
It's more that Charlton are headed in a weird direction, he's been playing with what is essentially their U23 midfield in the first team, and the relationship with Cooper and Swansea is going to keep developing.
With them looking at signing Maddison, he is the sort of player that makes him look good and everyone around him look bad - really not a good player to play in midfield with
I feel frustrated for the lad to be honest, when he does get a chance lately he seems to have been shifted out to left wing which isn’t his position imo and when he doesn’t play that well like the last game, some fans and Pep will now feel justified for him to not start in games like tonight. I hope that when/if he does come on, he can play back in midfield where he belongs and not out of position. Quite sad that he can’t start in a game when we’re already 3-1 up and he see’s players like Greenwood and Williams starting for Utd. For me it’s just another indication that he’s not going to be playing as much as Pep will have you believe next season imo.
Unfortunately, this just looks more and more accurate as the season goes on. I must admit that I fell into the trap a few weeks ago when he played against Zagreb and Arsenal in the space of a few days, of thinking that it may finally be the watershed moment. However, it looks now like the alarm bells are ringing louder than ever. Despite the lip service comments from Guardiola, there simply isn't the evidence to give you the optimism that he is going to blossom into a key part of his plans. Unless something dramatic happens, he can be ruled out as an option for the Euro's. Even if his minutes have statistically gone up, it doesn't necessarily mean much in terms of his development. He hasn't been playing in big games regularly, he hasn't been brought on when they are losing games, hasn't been playing in front of big crowds regularly etc. These are all challenges that he needs now to shape him and they simply haven't been given to him often enough. I do feel that if he is still having to settle for this sort of role at the end of the season, then he needs to do something. If he really wants to stay at City long term, then he could just go on loan. However, he is good enough to deserve better than the amount of minutes he is getting currently, when you compare him to his peers across Europe. I hope this post ends up being hyperbolic and I am made to eat my words, but unfortunately I feel we are well within our rights to be pessimistic about the Foden situation.
Foden only has himself to blame because nobody made him sign that contact extension at City, because he should have followed Sancho’s lead and jumped ship, and if he had he would be going to the Euro’s instead he is behind, Madison and Grealish in the pecking order.
Phil seems a nice lad a bit diffident. More Theo Walcott than Wayne Rooney to use some English wonderkid examples. Unfortunately Pep takes advantage of that. Hard to see Wayne lapping up Pep's jam tomorrow nonsense.
Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are under consideration for England Under-21 call ups next month. An FA delegation of U21 assistant head coach Lee Carsley and U20 head coach Paul Simpson were at Anfield for Shrewsbury game. U21s face Turkey & Andorra next month 🦁— Dominic King (@DominicKing_DM) February 5, 2020 I think Jones could be quite realistic but Elliot to skip U17’s straight to U21’s seems a bit early.
Todd Cantwell to Liverpool according to David Ornstein in The Athletic Liverpool want £30m Cantwell They may be reigning European champions and hurtling towards the Premier League title but Liverpool are already formulating plans to improve next season and The Athletic has learnt that the Anfield club have intensified their interest in signing Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell. Cantwell caught the eye on his Premier League debut at Anfield in August and Liverpool were among a host of teams to express admiration for the 21-year-old in the subsequent months. Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United are also keen, but once the January transfer window closed Liverpool stepped up their pursuit and can now be considered front-runners. Jurgen Klopp’s side were able to view Cantwell up close again during Saturday’s meeting at Carrow Road and it is thought he impressed members of the playing and coaching staff. Regardless of whether they are relegated from the top flight, Norwich would likely seek around £30 million for the England Under-21 international, who has six goals and two assists in 27 games.
Would be a bad move for both Cantwell and Liverpool given the emergence of Jones. It will be very interesting to see where Cantwell ends up next season, his potential price tag could cause people to scrutinize him more
