I wouldn't trust the medical expertise of a so-called intellectual who lives on a meat-only diet. But the news can be sourced anywhere. Here's the CBC link: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/jordan-peterson-treatment-russia-1.5456939
According to Forbes John Kapoors estimated net worth is $3.3 billion. Is that $250.000 fine supposed to be a joke? That does actually explain a lot! https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/side-effects/201011/brain-damage-benzodiazepines
I don't know if it's been mentioned (cuz I haven't been following this thread) but Netflix has a 4 part documentary about oxycontin in New Orleans, called The Pharmacist. Very well done.
Good news, bad news... https://www.npr.org/2020/10/21/9261...l-with-justice-department-over-oxycontin-sale Purdue Pharma Reaches $8B Opioid Deal With Justice Department Over OxyContin Sales The Justice Department announced on Wednesday a global settlement of civil and criminal investigations into Purdue Pharma's aggressive marketing of opioid medications, including OxyContin. Federal officials have long maintained Purdue's actions helped fuel a prescription opioid epidemic that has killed more than 232,000 Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But the deal unveiled Wednesday morning, which includes three felony guilty pleas, won't result in company officials or members of the Sackler family, who own Purdue Pharma, serving prison time. However, Justice Department officials said this deal doesn't preclude future criminal prosecutions of individuals involved in Purdue Pharma's opioid marketing practices. They said those separate investigations are ongoing.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/27/business/mckinsey-purdue-oxycontin-opioids.html Consultants hired by Purdue suggested paying rebates to CVS for every Oxy overdose caused by sales from their stores. that’s remarkable
The US is on course for over 100,000 deaths from overdoses. Fentanyl is showing up in meth and cocaine these days. https://apnews.com/article/overdodse-deaths-fentanayl-health-f34b022d75a1eb9776e27903ab40670f
Not only those drugs, but also benzodiazepines (sedatives). I am guessing there is a huge market which doesn't usually get mentioned as often as opiates. People may not know if the the street medications they purchase contain fentanyl, which is cheaper and more potent than other drugs, because the pills are made to look exactly like prescription medications such as Xanax, oxycodone, Percocet, Norco, and others. For example, counterfeit Xanax pills, sold for as little as $5 on the street, include a deadly combination of Xanax and fentanyl. These pills have caused numerous deaths and overdoses nationwide, including here in Carroll County. https://cchd.maryland.gov/alert-cou...fentanyl-related-overdoses-in-carroll-county/

I can only really speak for our situation here in BC, Canada. But, holy shit do we ever have a problem. Over dose calls are just killing our medical system. As much, if not more than Covid. Our 2021 statistics are in. We have a population of 5 million. And we had 35,525 over dose calls to emergency services in 2021. Almost 100 calls per day. It's just crazy given our relatively small size.
Toxic drug supply seems to be a big part of it. This may sound awful too, but we have a 95% successful survival rate. But a crap rate at getting people off the drugs. So it's a huge perpetuating cycle.
I can't speak to Canada, but in the areas here in the US, due to prior access, and all the issues surrounding the stay-in-place orders as well as all the businesses closing or being restricted, there has been an uptick. Additionally, there has been an increase in fentanyl, so there has been an increase in death rates. Though fentanyl is a bit of a different issue because it is getting mixed in with other drugs.
