it’s just as bad. The same way you felt alienated when they went fully streaming is the same way people who are streamers feel. You just don’t care because this doesn’t affect you. Two seasons in a row they’ve alienated portions of the fan base. it’s just as bad
Not going back to cable, so fire up the VPN and use ESPN+ if that's available this year. If not, then the only games I will see are home games and national telecasts. BTW, Sinclair should be fired into the sun.
Streamers now have the option of going to most, if not all bars and requesting the game, decidedly not an option last year for those of us who pay for cable/sat and use the streaming services already offered by them for our hard earned money. Thx, Jay!
DC United isn’t popular enough for people to go out of their way to do this though. Folks aren’t going to go to a bar to watch United, they just aren’t going to watch. The “casual fan” that the anti stream folks cared so much about last year is still left in the cold.
The casual fan is more likely to have cable or satellite in the dc area than to pay to stream only. And the casual fan in the suburbs now has a chance to go out to a local bar for a big game, if ever there is one. If the DC United marketing dept had any clue they would be out at One Loudoun and the shopping centers surrounding Rte 7 getting some game-day bar partners they could advertise in the LUFC area. If there were thousands of people subscribing to Flo, I’m pretty sure they would have stuck with it, despite the myriad of problems. Thx, Jay!
Paul Arriola suffered a right knee injury during D.C. United's preseason match vs. Orlando. In a brace, will undergo MRI exam, team says. #dcu #mls— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) February 15, 2020 following tweet says suspected ACL tear. Hate that it had to be my boy Paul.
That is a really weak defense of a broadcasting deal that makes it impossible for MANY supporters to watch games at home. We now must spend our "hard earned money" and go to bars to watch? And what about kids? And no, "most" bars will not show United matches. Really effin' lame ("I've got that channel on cable so screw the rest of you") and shortsighted if you care at all about DCU making inroads into the local sports market. In so many ways DCU just continues to be a 2nd class organization. It's disheartening.
last year did not effect me either. I watched o ESPN+ you are correct though I have zero sympathy for "cord cutters".
An opportunity for one of Segura, Boateng, Yow or Nyeman to step up. The injury sucks, but that's the game, every team has to deal with stuff like this. Maybe Kasper is looking over the MLS free agent list -- Meram and Shea are still available.
If it's only on cable, it isn't free. Which makes no difference IRL. Most of the people who have NC8 have no idea it exists, so the number of casual viewers for all the games not on the ABC affiliate will still be functionally zero. I believe Sinclair has bought out the Fox Sports regional affiliates, which even though there isn't one in DC, might mean that the FS app or Stadium app (which I believe they also own) could stream games. If not, I don't want to say 'just as bad,' but it's still pretty bad.
Today's WaPo has a long article about Donovan Pines daddy, the incoming president of the University of MD,on page B-1. He seems to be an admirable, accomplished individual.
Sinclair has an ownership interest in Stadium through its failed American Sports Network (which once had the DCU rights). A check of the Stadium schedule for February 29th reveals nothing scheduled for telecast at this time.

That needs to be updated. Shuttleworth signed with Chicago (not that we need another keeper anyway), and most of those other guys retired. Based on this list, the obvious choice seems to be to sign Beitashour and move Gressel to right mid, but there must be a reason Beita's gone this long without anybody picking him up.
Im 100% sure no one here wants Ricardo Clark, but I just wanted to point out he is retiring. Probably a few years too late. Good for him.
