Gaining seats in the midterm after a President is elected is virtually unheard of. Bush the Younger was able to do it thanks to 9/11, but from what I've seen from people more knowledgeable than me, midterms are usually brutal for the President's party.
Yeah, so unless Republicans totally tank this November, if a Democrat wins, we will have Republican controlled Senates for a while. So maybe Song is right, Republicans will be able to block S.C. appointees for at least 4 years.
National polls aren't particularly useful in primaries from what I've seen.. Bloomberg rising in the national polls isn't particularly convincing since he isn't doing well/performing in the early primaries and the primary results have a decent impact on the results from later primaries. This also highlights the complete lack of polling in primary states. Neither Nevada, or SC have had a poll since last week... I would really, really hope that we'll start seeing polls from those states released soon.
maybe? I'm also not convinced that Dems won't be able to at least get a 50/50 draw if a Dem wins the Presidency. I fully expect Jones to lose his seat in Alabama, but if a Dem takes the Presidency, they could pick up ME, NC, AZ, and CO, which would create a 50/50 split with the Dems taking the Senate thanks to the VP tie breaker.
That is exactly the type of OPTIMISM I expect here on BigSoccer! Not sure about Doug Jones yet. The rest of quite likely. There is a possibility in Georgia, especially against Loeffler, since it is an open special election. Too bad Abrams is not running. If things go as you state, I really want a VP Kamala Harris to be casting the tie-breaker constantly and consistently.
Exchange of the Day President Trump: “Mini Mike is a 5’4” mass of dead energy who does not want to be on the debate stage with these professional politicians. No boxes please. He hates Crazy Bernie and will, with enough money, possibly stop him. Bernie’s people will go nuts!” Mike Bloomberg: “Donald Trump — we know many of the same people in NY. Behind your back they laugh at you & call you a carnival barking clown. They know you inherited a fortune & squandered it with stupid deals and incompetence. I have the record & the resources to defeat you. And I will.”
I voted for Hillary Clinton against Trump in 2016 and it was an easy decision.I genuinely don’t know if I could bring myself to vote for Mike Bloomberg against Trump in 2020.— Emma Vigeland (@EmmaVigeland) February 13, 2020
So a moderate willing to give them even more concessions and call it a “win” is what you want? This place f***ked....I’ll be out of the country before this years is out....
Do YOU want another 4 years of Trump? Give me a Democratic President and four years of gridlock over the continual eroding of our democratic norms and threats to the very heart of our nation. I don't want a career criminal in the White House (I guess it sure is we dodged THAT bullet with Hillary Clinton).
I have Bernie-supporting friends who actually think the "Amendment King" thing is a selling point. I was not aware those are the only two choices.
Not sure if it's already been brought up, but according to Gallup 60% of Americans say they are better off now than when Trump took office compared to just 36% who say they are not. It's higher than during reelection campaigns of Obama, W, Clinton and HW. Hard to see how anyone could beat that and especially Bernie.
In a normal world Trump would be in a cake walk to renomination. The problem is that he's a dumpster fire with regards to the constant scandals, racism, etc, etc.
What an utter garbage take. Curious to know who is that Emma and found out she is part of the Young Turks with Cenk Ugur. Now I am not surprised.
BREAKING: @Culinary226 is NOT endorsing in the Democratic presidential race. Secretary-Treasurer Geoconda Arguello-Kline: “We’re going to endorse our goals. What we’re doing. That’s what we’re going to endorse. We’re not going to endorse a candidate, a political candidate.”— Megan Messerly (@meganmesserly) February 13, 2020
If Trump would just shut up and be all about the economy, he would win in a landslide. And you are going to hear this argument from the GOP. https://www.economist.com/united-states/2020/02/15/immigration-to-america-is-down-wages-are-up
1. It also happened in 1998. So you had two straight midterms where the President's party gained. 2. The odds are very, very high that the House district lines will be much better after redistricting. Point being, the Dems will be able to lose votes and break even in seats, easily. It's also possible that GOPs will fracture in many districts in 2022 between pro-Trump and anti-Trump factions. Trump's exactly the kind of lunatic who might start a 3rd party for Junior to run with.
Anybody who says they weren't better off in 2017 than they were in 2008 just hates the idea of a black president.
We are also do a recession, when will it happen? who will be in charge? who will the voters blame? Obviously winning in 2020 is first, then worry about everything else later.
While true, Wikipedia claims it was only the second time since the Civil War that the President's party was able to pick up seats.
Man, reading some of the posts re: Sanders, it's as if people are still shell shocked from 1972, the 1980s, or 94. Or as if Bernie is the left version of Trump. It's also February. Long ass way to go till November. Were it not for a certain James Comey we'd be talking about Hillary's reelection campaign. That said, Bernie will come and go, but the policies and views? They're here too stay. The billionaires know it (Leon Cooperman being in literal tears was quite something) and CEOs know it, too. Hell, Howard Schultz attempting a run is quite telling. And yeah, Bernie has his zealots, but in my experience they've been young women or older women.
