🗣️ Julian #Nagelsmann on team news: "There's some bad news. @tyler_adams14 pulled his calf yesterday. He will definitely miss Werder and Spurs. Otherwise, there's nothing new to report."🔴⚪ #DieRotenBullen #RBLSVW pic.twitter.com/3PfDzOu4ld— RB Leipzig English (@RBLeipzig_EN) February 13, 2020 dude can't catch a break
Lol Pulisic weah Adams and to a lesser extent, Weston, have shown an inability to stay available. Tyler’s last year has been very disappointing. Long injury, coach who plays him in his THIRD best position, now another injury.
Ok, so a guy with a great motor is asked to play a hybrid position, essentially covering two positions, and brings the same determination to this task. He plays it for his National team, once, and pulls a muscle causing long term injury rehab. He comes back after long term layoff and has a good game or two and his club coach asks him to do the same thing resulting in an injury, however minor. I feel that if anybody could do what was asked of him, TA could. If injury is the result of continuing to ask this of a player, he or them should shift gears. It won't get easier with age either. I am continually learning that one.
Great interview with Tyler Adams from Grant Wahl (Planet Futbol Podcast). I really recommend listening to it. Goes in depth about the Bayern game this past weekend, his injury, what's it like to play for Nagelsman and USMNT team stuff. Interview must have been before his calf injury because there is no mention of that. NEW POD: Had a phenomenal conversation with Tyler Adams about Leipzig, Champions League, the USMNT & his hopes of playing with Pulisic & McKennie in the Olympics. (Unfortunately, a new calf injury means he's out for at least the next week.)SUBSCRIBE: https://t.co/sNDZ4ELs3I— Subscribe to GrantWahl.com (@GrantWahl) February 13, 2020
I wonder if we should look at the context here. Is it just uncommon for athletes who play sports like football/soccer to stay fit for long periods of time? Are we expecting too much for our players to be fit for prolonged periods of time?
See HERE for some Premier League injury data. Here's one example. Average games missed per team due to injury. See the article for the list of teams.
With the way the game is evolving, this will only increase. High pressing constantly is debilitating as well as more intense training sessions. A player can achieve outlandishly good fitness, but parts break down eventually. WMcK getting hurt and returning quicker than expected is fine now, but age combined with more injuries is a bad mixture. The only advent will be younger players getting a shot and shorter life span of players. Maybe I should preface that with the position played by players. Of course a CB who does not foray forward will have a longer career than a CDM who also attacks at will and relentlessly presses high.
Next man up. This is why we need at least twice as many players starting in top flight Euro. It seems like we are headed in the right direction with some young faces getting time... but man o man... it sure seems like US players are soft. That, or we are just snake-bit. I seriously tire of this. Adams comes back after an extremely long injury layoff... gets plopped right into the starting lineup... lasts a little over a month and then *bam*. What a joke. Will CP actually be able to play this week? No real news on that front. History tells me to expect the answer to be "no". The list of serious injuries suffered by USMNT players over the past two season is so long that it really makes it hard for me to say it is coincidence. At any rate, I will care about Adams again when he can prove he can stay on the field. In the meantime.... out-of-sight, out-of-mind.
I don't care how optimistic one can be on players like Pulisic and Adams, at some point all these injuries have to make you worry. Yes, they are young and things can change, but they are injured a lot more than your average player and getting older likely means even more injuries more often and probably more severe. Yikes...
I have come to the point where I am no longer expecting them to play in important USMNT games. This can't be all chance. Aside from Dest, they are our two best players but they consistently prove that they can't stay on the pitch. Their careers for their club teams are being stunted as well and I really see no reason for optimism from a health perspective... because like you said, it only gets harder with age.
I really hope they don't turn into Jozy and John Brooks, where its a bonus if they're available but we can't count on them to be healthy. Repeated history of muscle/tendon injuries is bad news
Unfortunately I think we are already at that point. Not saying that either couldn't have an extended run of health just that history doesn't make it all that likely.
This is a gross overstatement, especially for Adams. Adams has had one injury in his entire career that has kept him out for an extended period, and he's just getting back into fitness from that injury. When players are out for that long, they always suffer some sort of muscular setback after they return. It's part of how this sport operates. To then take this setback and say he can't be relied upon is asinine. Pulisic, for what it's worth, has played in 64% of Chelsea's matches this season, and has been available either as a starter or a reserve in 78%. Mr. Unreliable.
Adams obviously out for today's Champions League match at Tottenham. Leipzig is going with what looks like a 3-4-3 or 5-3-2 with Laimer and Sabitzer as the deeper center mids.
Move $40mm from you left pocket to your right pocket or or take $40mm from someone else’s pocket, with a sell on for more. Easy choice.
