I realized I've been updating everything about him on the Colombians in Mexico thread. The kid deserves his own. SO...there were talks in the offseason of America trying to loan him out. The rumor was that Piojo Herrera has something against him. Not sure I believe that, but the kid did not have a good season. He came in on the wrong foot after his long injury, and even though he made some impact off the bench, he never convinced this season when he did start. While form and fitness certainly have played a part in this, I've noticed several times that Benedetti just looks out of sync tactically at America. When he plays behind the striker he NEVER drops back. When he plays right wing, he never cuts in/drops back to create. Totally unlike the player he was at Cali. During the Mexican league final, where Benedetti was subbed in during the first half, I finally noticed that Herrera was giving him specific instructions to stay closer to the touchline. Not sure if this was specific to that game, but I noticed Benedetti trying his best to follow these instructions. In fact, he followed them to the point that he missed opportunities to combine and create. Which brings me to the Preolimpico. To me, he's been our best player after Carrascal. And it's odd, because we're seeing Carrascal do what Benedetti used to do at Cali. Carrascal has become the modern 10 of the team, while Benedetti is sticking to the right wing. It's working. But the weird thing is, while we see Carrascal switch positions with Cetre constantly, he and Benedetti barely do. Basically, Benedetti strikes me as a guy who needs to be told he has some freedom. Otherwise, he plays very disciplined to team tactics to his own detriment.
Horrible news looks like he tore his ACL last night. Parte médico Nicolás Benedetti. https://t.co/6tNMa6FjSg pic.twitter.com/SQMHPWUSyY— Selección Colombia (@FCFSeleccionCol) February 10, 2020
Sigh. After an incredible defensive effort, Benedetti steals a ball and puts in an assist to put America ahead. And he reinjured his knee on the play. He was crying pretty bad. He'll probably be out for a long time again...
🏥 | Medical Update on Nicolás BenedettiClub América reports that our player Nicolás Benedetti has a right knee injury, which will be evaluated tomorrow to determine his situation.#FuerzaBenedetti— Club América EN (@ClubAmerica_EN) October 20, 2020
we could always use more injury prone players. I'm sure Yerry Mina will join him soon, he should be due another injury in a few weeks.
I don't think he is the type of player Queiroz would have called up soon anyway. But I hope he gets better soon and I am proven wrong. I like his potential and what he can provide.
He's getting another operation on the knee, but apparently he'll only be out 4-6 weeks. Had no idea any knee surgery could have such a quick recovery, but that's good news.
lol, just accept it. Every single time its almost time to play you can expect at least a few injuries. I'm used to it by now and just brace.
here you go. We're forced into an early change as Jeff goes off injured 😔 Go on Dom! 👊 18 | 🐝 1-0 🍒 // #afcb pic.twitter.com/CBVPY6Yw7R— AFC Bournemouth 🍒 (@afcbournemouth) October 24, 2020
I have totally written him off after all the injuries but it would be awesome if he really comes back into the fore. Could be a useful sub for Quintero while we get James in form.
