I agree - it was really bad. Almost made me wish for turf. I hope that Reyna is right because they are bleeding fans as long as this continues.
Randy Levine said they "are in active negotiations" and "hope to announce something this year" during an interview on Bloomberg today.
https://www.hudsonriverblue.com/201...ome-this-year-gal-manufacturing-bronx-Yankees HRB article on this. Sorry if it's been posted but I missed it yesterday and this had me excited when I did finally see it.
I don’t get it. How the hell is this GAL site suppose to get a stadium wedged in? It is boxed in on 3 sides by 153rd St, the Major Deegan Express entrance/exit ramp, and the Yankees–East 153rd Street station. All things, as far as I can tell, that can’t be moved. So where is the space to put a 20k+ sized stadium there? If you look a block to the north, you’ll see the Joseph Yancey Track & Field, which has a soccer pitch. If you take that pitch size, transpose it over the site, you’ll quickly see that the GAL site might not even fit a regulation sized pitch, let alone stands of any kind. Are fans going to float over the pitch like the Qatar plan to have floating AC units during their hosting of the World Cup? So unless they are going to close off 153rd St, and knock down that parking garage, there is no way an MLS stadium is being built there.
I don't feel like searching for it, but it's been posted on here before by me and others, but that site would involve not only the GAL site, but also a parking garage, a surface parking lot and the de-mapping of part of a street. There was a New York Times graphic showing the whole plan.

====================== Being in Los Angles area, have not seen much on this project, but considering where they are trying to build, that looks amazing. I have been to a baseball game at old Yankee and a soccer game at new Yankee. If they can work in a mix of housing for the neighborhood and revenue producing items like a hotel or commercial, this just might work and be one of the gems of the league. If NYCFC can get it done, then we need to move onto Boston and get a SSS deal done. Heck, even LAFC got a downtown stadium done, admittedly, they played the system by simply replacing one stadium of one type to a stadium of a different type (I believe) to avoid some of the enviromental impact report costs. AND despite being in LA, we managed to pull off 2 light rail stations and a busway station to serve the stadium (miracles do happen) I wonder if the NYC project gets approved, I wonder how long it will take to build.
dunno who thought this is a good idea... https://www.frontrowsoccer.com/2020...rt-nycfc-to-play-ccl-match-at-red-bull-arena/
It's not unknown in soccer history for teams to play a home game or two at their biggest rival's stadium. Manchester United played at Manchester City's Maine Road between 1941 and 1949. They also played several European games at Maine Road before floodlights were installed at Old Trafford.

Bob Williams @WilliamsBob75 21h .@NYCFC head coach Ronny Deila tells ESPN it’s all but certain that the team won’t play at Yankee Stadium this season. Red Bull Arena a possible venue, he says. #mlsisback
RBA seems inevitable. Can't help but laugh when that eventually happens. What a disaster this has been.
Citifield and Yankee Stadium are going to be too busy, as is Giants Stadium if NFL happens, so that leaves Randall's Island, Columbia University or Red Bull Arena as potential hosts. The first is difficult to get to and has a capacity of just 5,000, the second has no parking and the last one is going to be empty as a lot of NYC fans won't go. If they want to stay in the Bronx they could play at Fordham University, where they've hosted Open Cup games but that's a pain to get to on public transport and holds just 7,000. Of course there's the Marina Auto Stadium in Rochester, New York, which is a mere 338 miles north of Yankee Stadium. If they're going to play behind closed doors they may as well play at their training center, Etihad City Football Academy, in Orangeburg, NY but if MLS and NYS decide to allow fans they may as well take a hiatus as February is only 7 months away.
From my understanding fans aren't going to be allowed in as of right now. The training field may be an issue if you want to broadcast the games but I don't have a problem with RBA since fans won't be allowed in. They did talk about possibly using some other places, the team wants natural grass field so that really is the biggest deciding factor.
If allowing some fans was an option, RBA would be better than a smaller stadium, right - so fans could space out?
