Reyna with a needless foul... but honestly that guy would have never caught Sancho... so foul didn't really need to be called. That being said, it makes the foul itself needless. I think he played quite well and that the color commentator was wrong in calling him out. Like the offense was lost w/o Bradnt... not even. He missed like a single pass the whole half. He did fade a bit... but I think the offense as a whole did too. At any rate, blaming the kid for the loss due to said foul is a joke. BVB's D is terrible. How many one-on-ones w/ the keeper did they give up? Could have allowed 6 in this game at least. The fact that they needed that 4th goal just to get a draw tells me everything I need to know. There is no way in hell they can challenge for a title. As far as Gio is concerned... still very impressed.
You must be new at following the Bundesliga. Expect all calls from now on to favor a certain team winning the league.
It's well known Americans have a hell of a time telling between the Aussie, British, Kiwi and South African accents.
Seriously though. I watch a lot of soccer and Brit/US commentators are super biased and look at the game through very specific lenses. I opt to watch Spanish/portuguesa commentator as they seem to have a less (still biased) view of the game and are much better color guys.
Reyna was dangerous and tidy and if not for that stupid foul we'd be fueling the hype train some more (probably should be anyway). He did fade some and is probably not 90 minutes fit, so a start might be some ways off. And that's fine.
I agree I’m usually feel more critical of our players compared to most here but thought he did well (not great). He has great technical skill and vision and fits well as a #10 rather than a winger. There were a few times he did slow down the attack when others were getting forward at a much faster pace. Other than this, the few times he lost/misplaced the ball, and that one foul I thought he fit in perfectly.
Aussie's, like other commonwealth denizens, can be "more English than the English", if you know what I mean.
Which is really surprising, because even the Anglo South Africans' accent is quite different from the Australian or Kiwi accent. As for the Afrikaaners . . .
Julian Brandt will not be available for next weekend’s match against Frankfurt due to an ankle sprain suffered during yesterday’s match.Get well soon, Julian! 🙏 pic.twitter.com/oRs5seOeI1— Borussia Dortmund (@BlackYellow) February 9, 2020
My take on it is that this 45 minutes may be the evidence that suggests to Favre that Gio may not be ready to start quite yet. I think he struggled a bit with his focus for 45 minutes yesterday. He lost a few balls that he shouldn't and his touch let him down a few times. I would bet that Favre chooses another option from the start next game. I would not have been surprised at all if Reyna had gotten subbed out after they scored the 4th. Not that the goals were on Reyna, but I don't know if he was effective in his role yesterday.
Hey, we'll find out won't we. I do think the absence of Reus and Brandt was probably the difference in this game. I think Dahoud on for Brandt followed by Reyna on for Can would have been the better decision. The coach seems to have gone away from using Goetze and Dahoud much.
Yeah, but he didn't do that. It was non-existent. I don't blame him, I blame Favre. His managerial tactics blew the match. Reyna did as best he could and it simply wasn't good enough.
Oddly I got worse at it as I aged. I can no longer distinguish between a Scot and and Irishman and I used to find it easy.
The whole team was down. 3rd game in 7 days, loss in Cup - it was simply not their day. The most interesting question is if Reyna will be asked to do what Brandt has been doing - receive the ball from the defense and put it through to the attack with advantage. I suppose that would be a big ask. I didn't like the patty-cake play between Sancho and Reyna which made them both look bad, imo, altho I suppose it was worth a try.
We were up 3-2 and Leverkusen scored twice in 3 minutes with 10 min left. How often do we see Dortmund crumble in the final few minutes? We saw it last season and that trend is continuing this season. I blame Favre. Leverkusen played the same amount of matches. Difference? They won their Cup match and they beat BVB (a team with arguably better players) after being behind by 2 goals. I think they are still trying and figure that out. He's got a long road ahead of him but I think BVB is the place for him but I am not sure if he is a Brandt type-player. Need to see more of him playing up front.
Reyna gets a 2.5 from Kicker for his 45 minute performance, which is a little surprising to me. https://www.kicker.de/4588839/analy...borussia-dortmund-17#article__context-stats-5
