I think parking will actually begin to get cheaper around Audi field as the team gets less involved in parking. I'm certain that these pre-arranged deals all involve a cut to the team who has been creating a pseudo cartel around parking. The cartel is falling apart (likely because of team apathy). As more independent lots compete, our pricing should go down to a market level akin to what we see for the MCI Arena (or whatever it's called now).
Seems like a win all around. Julian Gressel got lucky, though. The free agent salary increase cap wouldn't have allowed him to get paid anywhere near as much as DC United are about to pay him.
LOL - I was going to rep that post because he makes a valid statement - but it involved something semi-nice about Jersey so I couldn't pull the trigger
The league has the right to grant exemptions regarding the restrictions around the 3rd DP slot which was that slot needed to be within the max TAM spend unless the player was <23 ... paging LAG to the red courtsey phone... Teams are required to fly at least 8 one way charters in 2020 rising to 16 in 2024.
At first glance, that's a good deal for the players. Free agency is huge. 24 and 5 years service means all those academy kids signed in their mid-teens can make a free move during their prime years. The increase in charters is good as well. It's not perfect, but makes MLS look more "major league" in many ways. Congratulations to both sides for making a deal voluntarily.
The team getting less involved with parking won't make more parking actually appear, though. Without more supply, you can't really expect prices to drop.
The new replica jerseys and game jerseys are available in the on-line store. But they are all blank. Is there a feature that I can use to customize a jersey with name and number? Or would I have to wait to order that at the store at Audi?
The team formed a cartel around parking by consolidating parking. As does Colonial and other companies. While spaces *may* remain constant, the more companies hawking spaces will likely result in lower prices due to competition. The number of spaces near MCI are relatively constant and there are many suppliers so prices are not going up faster than normal market rates. The same cannot be said for Audi.
Of course Negotiations between D.C. United and NBC Sports Washington for local TV rights are not going well, I’m told. Early in process, club had also engaged with Fox5, Sinclair (channels 7 & 8) and at least one streaming service. Season opens in 3 weeks. #dcu #mls— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) February 7, 2020 We can't have nice things.
Paging Kasper https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...utually-agree-part-ways-ahead-2020-mls-season I wouldn't mind him as back up to Kamara until the summer window opens
I lean to agreeing with this. There's a thin line between being 'creative' and being garish, one that about 9 out of the 10 original MLS teams went way past, DCU being the exception. I also look at the USMNT and have a real problem with them making sweeping changes to the entire theme and general look every 2 years. It's one thing to try to capitalize on some fans' need to always have the newest by unveiling a shirt with new touches and accents, it's another to change the basic color scheme over and over. From a branding perspective, I think the first thing is to be able to turn a game on TV and identify the team that's playing fairly easily just by looking at the colors. Some teams don't have this, and DC is lucky enough that we usually do. Job 1 is to make sure your changes don't risk that. Now, if you do want to get creative, you can do so with a third strip, and then use it based on how well it sells.
Saw an IG post from Sorga: https://www.instagram.com/p/B8URRqDggCs/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link He looks like a footballer. Has the eyes of a poacher/striker. We should see what he can bring to the first team.
He's 5'5. I'm kind of over having pocket sized players and am pleased with the height we've been bringing in. I suppose for depth he wouldn't hurt but I hope Sorga can fill that 2nd forward in a 4-4-2 (don't blame a guy for dreaming) or backing up Kamara in a 4-5-1.
I think the modern game doesn't require tall forwards so much. The obvious mention is Messi, but even look at Acosta in 2018. Someone with a low center of gravity can weave through spaces and cause taller CB's fits. I remember the time Acosta dribbled through the NYCFC backline and scored. Sorga may not be great in the air, but if he has nose for the ball when it's pinging around in the box, that's OK by me.
"The team formed a cartel"? Come on. That's not the issue at all. The issue is supply. Without it prices really aren't going to go down. I mean, I can get parking for tonight's Caps game at a garage less than half a mile from the arena for $8. I can get parking a quarter mile from the arena for $10. That will never happen at Audi Field because there is not enough supply of spaces there. Especially while the Nationals continue to refuse to allow their garages to be used for Audi Field events. And yes, while you can get $10 parking for the DC United season opener, you have to walk 3/4ths of a mile from the garage to the stadium.
Remember when the Nats garages were the primary source of parking spots in the parking plan the club published? FTR, I parked on Saturday night (ugh) for the Caps game, across the street from the main gate for $25 ... went upstairs, had dinner at Rosa Mexicano and sauntered across the street 15 min before the puck dropped. Hopefully nothing is getting past the zoning board without parking as part of their site build.
We'll see this season as the team arranged parking is greatly reduced. If you clipped all of my post you would have also included the part that said "while spaces *may* remain constant" qualifier. A little 'c' "cartel" is anyone that tries to monopolize a resource in order to sell it for more. Did DCU not attempt to do this with decent success the first couple of years? I would say yes.
Has there ever been an explanation for why those garages aren't open for Audi Field events? I've brought this up before so apologies for being repetitive, but it's absolutely insane to me that the public paid for those garages and the team seemingly refuses to open them for anything but stadium events. The Lerners and Jack Evans can ******** off.
Every site I've seen lists him at 1.76 meters (5'9"). That's not "target forward" country, but it's certainly not pocket sized. https://www.transfermarkt.com/erik-sorga/profil/spieler/322690 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erik_Sorga
