Well, he wanted some prime real estate for free. That same real estate was sold to developers at the market rate, and they built up the area with a convention center, shops and hotels and all that stuff.
At the site of the @AustinFC stadium and wow have they done a lot of work! pic.twitter.com/mFE49Zh3Oz— Amy Denney (@write_riot) February 4, 2020 Media day out at Mckalla. Here's a statesman photo gallery: https://www.statesman.com/photogallery/TX/20200204/SPORTS/204009998/PH/1
Nashville Council meeting is underway. CM @Sledgefor17 is asking for a Metro Legal opinion on the MLS stadium. He wants to know what authority the mayor has to hold up an approved plan, and what the city's liability is.— Tony Gonzalez (@TGonzalez) February 5, 2020
Yeah, you get a certain amount of your investment return from suites and naming rights, which of course go up in value with the size of the league. But beyond that, difference in franchise value is a crucial piece, and franchises in general have to be worth enough for that difference to really matter. Taking New England, just spit-balling it based on Forbes estimates, the difference between what the Revs are worth and what they 'could be worth' in an optimal setup is about $150 million or so. This difference is a lot larger than it would have been only 5 or so years ago.
#NYCFC fans will surely be a bit embarrassed by this - the club is set to play one of its CCL matches at...Red Bull Arena.IMO, this is almost a worse look for #RBNY, though?Either way... schadenfreude! https://t.co/bx4o0D62eF— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) February 5, 2020 NYCFC will be playing their CCL home games in a venue in New Jersey where they don't control the revenue.
Its a better Stadium for soccer than YS or Citi Field, thats for sure... The narrative though is horrible
Yankee stadium rejected Yankee stadium, for reasons unknown (Scheduling?). Concacaf rejected the college stadium (Hartford?).
Personally I think everyone has it wrong on NE because I’ve never been wrong on anything ever.......ok I might be full of crap but hear me out. Rebuild that GD stadium again and go full Tottenham Spurs and be able to roll out a football field and a futbol pitch. NE in ten years will have huge quantity of fans living the burb life. Which is about when they will get anywhere with a stadium. That team has the potential to pull huge numbers into the games.
The stadium is less than 20 years old and has had lots of recent renovations like a new HD video screen and more lug-jury suites in the south end zone where there used to be seats, so there's really no need to "rebuild" it. I like the idea of having a roll-out grass field, but given the cost and the extra revenue it would (not) generate (what, maybe 1-2 Nats or Euro club games a year?), how can you justify it? Yeah, the team has potential to bring in huge numbers and that has always been the case. I dinnae how old you are, but in the early years of MLS, the Revs were among the top teams in attendance and they used to say that they'd average 30,000 if they ever had a good team. Of course, the missing piece after all those years was commitment from the ownership. In the time before the new stadium was built the Revs were either breaking even or had modest losses as a stand-alone entity. We were Seattle before anyone had even invented Seattle. When the new place opened, the cost of just opening the doors quadrupled. They decided to have Patriots staff do double duty for the Revs (which went over really well for the lazy sloths who actually had to work at selling tickets now). The team was about to fold in 2002, but an improbably Cup run with 63,000+ for the final made sure that didn't happen. I can only wonder how different the story would have been if Winston Griffiths' shot was a quarter-inch lower. Still, the team was still run on a low budget as an afterthought. Even though the team was both entertaining and good, attendance declined. It didn't help that parking cost more than the cheapest ticket and they put all the fans on one side, so there'd be zero atmosphere. They've fixed that in recent years, but interest has been low-key for many years. With Arena on board (the soccer version of Bellichick) that they now take the on-field side seriously. The hope is that someone will catch the clue bus and demand the same level of competency for off-field elements, notably improving the atmosphere and creating a buzz around the team. There isn't a lot we can do to change the fact that we play in a soul-less concrete edifice with 30,000 more seats than we need in the midst of a dreary suburban shopping mall, but at least if the team put a little bit of effort in, it could be better.
I went to boston this last december (patriots game, they lost to Miami ugh)... I was amazed of the lack of precence of the Revs in Boston. I never saw a sticker, flag, ad , clothing or anything else related to them, it was like they didn't exist (plenty of patriots, celtics, red sox and bruins gear everywere). Even at Gillette Stadium, I only saw 1 mere flag promoting Revolution Soccer. It was abysmal the lack of precence. That is all about the Front Office.
Yes, that's it in a nutshell. You'd think that the same people own both teams they'd plug the less popular team just a tiny little bit, but noooo, too much effort! Back in the 70s, Yankee Stadium was being rebuilt for 2 years and the Yanks shared Shea with the Mets. These were 2 direct competitors for the loyalties of BB fans in New York. But even the Yankees got to put their logo at the top of the scoreboard (covering the Mets') for their home games, and had sineage, etc. Of course, everyone knew it was really the Mets' stadium, but they at least attempted to make it their own. You'd think the Krafts would let their "other" team put up a couple of signs or do even the slightest thing to show they exist? They've done a little of that in recent years, but for years you'd never know they played there. As for merch and team gear, etc. it's nonexistent! I went to Montreal before they announced the Impact were moving up, and I saw more Impact stuff on sale in general stores than I do Revs' gear. And this is a town totally dominated by the Habs that there were Habs dog sweaters available in 4 different sizes!

Nashville is starting to make the Miami situation look good. I would just hate to see Nashville playing forever in the Titans oversized stadium, but at least its a grass field.
San Carlos: We're playing our match against NYCFC at Red Bull Arena. Citeh: Not so fast, my Costa Rican friends... NYCFC officials said last night responded to the report that they would play a CCL match at Red Bull Arena by saying nothing was finalized. That might make them look even worse. Less than 3 weeks before the game and you don’t even know where you’re going to play???Bush league.— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) February 7, 2020
Some credible reporting on NYCFC's long search for a stadium maybe being over? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/07/sports/soccer/nycfc-stadium-bronx-mls.html
This is a dangerous stage. Nothing signed but now the public knows and is excited by it. Now's the part where usually the MLS team get's bent over in negotiations and it falls apart. Hopefully not this time.
