I see your point... but I have not seen anything as of yet that indicates that he can't handle the situation. They were down 3-1 in a cup game and he scored a wonder goal, had several penetrating dribbles and a score of accurate passes in tight spaces and set up what should have been the game-tying goal to Reus. There was pressure there and he handled it very well. Heck, just the way he ran around the pitch and demanded the ball at his feet showed me what I needed to know. He is ready and won't shy away from making a play.
Has anyone posted this? Learn to love Dual National Panic (“DNP”). It’s the only way to live https://t.co/6MdqzreUhX— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) February 6, 2020

So he is the wonder-child of one of the best players in USMNT history and has played in our youth organizations since he could crawl but he is going to switch to Argentina? Kind of silly.
Here's a video of his performance the other day. I had to rip it off youtube in case it gets taken down (it was uploaded last night) so the quality is a little lower but you can get the gist of it. Some of his little turns and passes are indeed Zidane esque. He uses the side of his boot quite a bit in clever little ways. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1mAQZD_o8_A4_SBsNw3wtWpm-N0JG9faZ
The PTI segment was The Word, where Tony and Michael fill in a blank. Gio Reyna's first goal for Dortmund was blank. Wilbon had someone do research for him and say it was "business-as-usual." He said that developing young players is what Dortmund does and referenced Pulisic, Sancho and Haaland. (Who, of course, has gotten about 1% of his development at this moment at Dortmund. Marsch has been more important. But I digress.) Tony got on the hype train by saying maybe CP and Reyna could make the US a legit contender in 2026.
If the son of Captain America and a mother who played for the USWNT can become Captain Argentina, then the laws of physics have been broken irreparably. I don't see him switching.
While our striker pool is worse than meh, it's good to remember most of our goals in difficult games come from midfield. We're, historically, a NT of midfield-scorers. So Gio would fit in that nicely. But why so much NT talk in this thread? Bunga is going to pull our ears.
It just isn't logical to not be able to talk about how these players stack up and project on the USMNT. It is a Yanks Abroad Forum. I know there is another forum that is specific to USMNT... but it just means that you have to visit two threads instead of one to discuss a player like Gio... and in the end 80%+ of the content will be exactly the same.
National team and club team are two different dynamics.YA is a ace where I can go and not have the endless USMNT cringefest.
Its interesting, i have watched his u17 games and basically any time he has been on tv (since page 3 of bs) because of his size and technical abilities, you really cant compare him to someone else... Also just to clear up, compared to his abilities, he had a very very bad 15 min against union. Good news is at 17 and 2 months we can expect him to start against bayer. Because of the "traumtor" i will be very interested to see how transfernarkt will value him... 10 million €?
But the 20% of content not in this thread will be a tangent that immediately descends into a mindless, dogmatic argument over Jozy Altidore.
I see your point. Just think it is hard to distinguish at times... Like you have several points to make and you have to omit one because god-forbid it mentions said player's role on the USMNT. Again, this is a US Player Abroad Forum w/ an American Flag Icon in front of the home link... seems odd at times that Mods have to spend their time perusing threads and moving discussions to a doppelganger thread that is just a bit more specific. Gio is this... Gio is that. He is playing on the wing for BVB if you want to know where I think he should line up for the USMNT go to this other thread.
Great last clip of the zwei Amerikanische Jungs shaking hands. You heard it here first. That kid is the American Pirlo.
Gio Reyna will not ever plays for the Argentinian national team, and if he does I will eat my own a$$ on stage at Coachella. That's the post.
Regarding Giovanni's goal: I was just thinking that, for as great as it was, it still may not be the most beautiful/spectacular one scored by an American in the German Cup. Some of you may recall the one Joe Enochs scored against Bayern Munich in 2004. And going further back, McBride with a bicycle kick in 1994, also against Bayern.
