Ok, now I'm back to it being a sitter, just to be contrary and fight Tim. I will predict that, as time goes on, his conversion on that opportunity increases. And if it does, he will be scoring a few goals. I think his movement in the box is pretty decent already. He's got good size and decently good feet. Hopefully he continues to refine his nose for the goal. An aggressive midfielder who can score as well as pass would be pretty nice on any team.
Yeah "heck of a sitter" was clearly overstating, but I think he had a very good chance to finish it as well, as the keeper was committed. And I think we'll see him finish more of those as time goes on, but as I noted before if "sitter" means easier to miss than make, this was not that.
I think if you take Gio's natural talent into account, then it's something you'd expect him to finish. It's all relative right.
But honestly, let's not lose site of what's important: A PERFECT STRIKE!Gio Reyna, son of former USMNT captain Claudio Reyna, scores his first goal for Dortmund! pic.twitter.com/sPSaPIqdH9— ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) February 4, 2020 I mean, damn.
It would be very rare though for them to poach a player in this way. In fact, I'm struggling to recall a time they've ever done it. Generally it goes the opposite way, with other countries taking their players.
And over reaction is still alive and well. I did not say he was as good as or will be. All I said was he is similar. He is tall and long striding. He can pass and shoot. So is Keaton Parks and Johnjo Shelvey. Just a physical observation. You can lean back in your chair.
Gio's service is like receiving the ball on a pillow. He also seems to have a very good long pass. I'd be surprised if he doesn't play the Brandt position altho that takes a lot of dodging traffic for a guy Reyna's age. Sancho is a superb winger - he has that ability to stay wide but not wider than necessary and that stop on a dime and change direction thing that wingers do. I believe Gio's value to Dortmund may be in hunting goals against teams that put up a brick wall v. Dortmund, i.e. the Gotze/Kagawa "10" type position. Somebody has to feed the beast (Haaland).
There's NFW reyna's going to Argentina unless the USMNT puts out a pure ban on European-based players (to be clear, that's not happening). I can just imagine my friend's Argentinean wife saying,"of course, he'll choose Argentina if they deign to offer him a spot because it's the most amazing country and soccer team". They look down upon continental Europe and Spain even though their own country is quickly moving to "s***-hole" status sadly. Love Buenos Aires though.
https://talksport.com/football/377386/2002-world-cup-all-star-team-players-best-south-korea-japan/ pretty sure he was Best XI, but can only find FIFA’s all star team. So you’ll have to just trust me.
Officially FIFA announced a 16 player all star team (and 7 reserves, including LD). That's just Talksport paring it down to their Best XI (they say so at the end of the article).
They would have done it more often if there were Argentina-eligible players good enough to make their squad. It's not as if they've been routinely passing on guys better than Messi simply because they're dual nationals.
Because of black plague, reyna EXPECTED TO START https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sp...rletzung-can-reyna-leverkusen-reaktionen/amp/
Lucien Favre on Gio Reyna starting for Borussia Dortmund: "Why not? It's possible. He can play many positions in attack." #BVB #USMNT— Ronan Murphy (@swearimnotpaul) February 6, 2020
Oh man... The weekend can't come soon enough for me. Gio starting next to Haaland? I get the feeling these two are going to be leading the charge next season when Sancho heads elsewhere.
That is just it though... that seems to work somewhat for a guy like CP who weighs 140 soaking wet. Gio isn't a lightweight. Furthermore, he plays in a league that is quite a bit less physical.
I'm ambivalent about the prospect of him starting in this match-up. It's throwing him into the deep end. Bayer Leverkusen on the road won't be easy. There will be plenty of tribulations that could start him on bad footing if he's not poised, focused. Wouldn't be against him being the first sub option and opting for Gotze to replace Reus.
