They are a blast to watch. It's going to be a fun ride down the stretch. Champions league run and battling for the Bundi title and it looks like Gio will play a part in it.
Have been kind of beating the drum for a while that he’s faster than most thought. (About a year ago there were a lot of questions if he were a good enough athlete to play at this level at all) He’s a long strider and so smooth he doesn’t “look” like he’s moving that fast- but the kid is an excellent athlete. You’re not dunking in 8th grade (especially at his size) if you’re not.
Re: Reyna vs. Pulisic- Gio doesn’t have CP’s world class burst and quickness, but honestly there’s not many in the world that do. The guy used to beat Aubameyang to the 20-30 yard mark in races in practice, who at the time was considered the fastest player in the world. That said, I think Gio is a better striker of the ball (obviously, if today is any indication) and is probably ahead of where CP was in terms of end product at this age.
I think we've got a Bobby Bonds / Barry Bonds or Ken Griffey / Ken Griffey, Jr. scenario on our hands. The fathers were sometime all-stars. The sons are much better.
Gio was so fantastic tonight. I think he only missed a single pass and he was consistently in tight spaces. Should have had an assist if Reus had hit what he normally does. Had another opportunity for a goal to start the night. Great in the build-up... fantastic in tight spaces and what a goal. Adams, CP, Dest, Gio and Holmes... those 5 make a pretty dynamic nucleus moving forward. My expectations for Gio are sky-high.
Throw in McKennie, Steffen, Brooks and Robinson/Yedlin/Cannon and the USA starting XI looks pretty promising.
Man, why didn't any of you say how entertaining the last thirty minutes of this game was above and beyond Reyna's goal? I got almost the entire Dortmund lineup missing easy chances -- Sancho, Haaland, Reyna, Reus, Witsel, and I think even one of the defenders in there. We had a keeper out of net, getting a header just off frame in the end, Reyna got in a soccer fight and firmly established his CONCACAF cred by rolling on the ground for like six minutes (and what did he say to that dude to get a reaction like that!), Marco Reus going crazy with the ball in play and drawing a yellow, and last but not least, I got a PBP guy screaming "He dislocated his back!" (Spoiler, he did not dislocate his back). Tons of fun. Oh, and while Sargent did not play well, Rashica missed him on two golden opportunities, once ignoring him wide open at the top of the box to pass a cross into four defenders and one attacker (fail), and once hitting an easy cross 10 feet over his head when he had position to take a good shot on goal. NOTE: Replay is on ESPN3 if you have it.
Because all of us just watched that goal a thousand times. Thank you for the recap, though, much appreciated.
Very impressive goal. Dortmund became a much more dangerous team with Reyna and Haaland on the pitch. If that game went on another ten minutes, Dortmund probably would've pulled it out. Bremen was very relieved it ended when it did.
These days broadcasters go after Tweets showing even 10 seconds of a game and have them removed. Shame.
I understand that they want the companies who own the tv rights to have exclusive access to the content. Ok. So, exclusive tv rights people, where can we watch your official highlights, ads and all?
Reus out for 4 weeks. During yesterday’s match, Marco Reus sustained a muscle injury that looks to keep him sidelined for up to four weeks.Get well soon, Captain 🙏 pic.twitter.com/3TyZ4qgpkZ— Borussia Dortmund (@BlackYellow) February 5, 2020
had to lol hard on the concacaf street cred. Now back to wishing the black plague on team competition. Great news with Rues!?
In Grant Wahl's 2018 SI.com story on Claudio and Danielle Reyna and their family that lost their oldest son, Jack, to cancer at the age of 13 in 2012, Claudio, the former captain of the U.S. national team, described how their second oldest son, Gio, then 16, was different than him: “He’s much more of an athlete than I was, much more of a goal-scorer. He’s very technical and has a good feel for the game. He has a great free kick and can strike a ball well. Danielle was a great runner -- and he’s a runner.” https://www.socceramerica.com/publi...aign=23127&hashid=IUsf5WVmc_JBMFojJBG2pqpJ8oU
Hmmmm, 'sometime all-stars', let's not undersell Claudio. Before Donovan and Dempsey were established (like mid-career) Claudio was arguably the best and most accomplished player ever to come out of this country. He was captain of Wolfsburg at a time when there were almost no Americans in any European first division (Tab never got to play in La Liga), won the SPL with Rangers, had 2 multi-million dollar transfers into EPL clubs and was on FIFA's best 11 team for the 2002 World Cup. Claudio is still the best 8 we've produced, IMHO. Not only did he have the technical skill to hold the ball under pressure, he had the soccer brain to dictate tempo...some complain about him passing sideways or backwards too much but on teams that would be under siege and defending constantly against good competition, to have a player able to control the ball and provide a breather was invaluable - and he always did have an eye for the dangerous through ball. He was a player we frankly didn't deserve for many years. thus endeth the lesson
Just cause every thread needs a rainy guy - he did miss a heck of a sitter early in his shift. That would have be a beautiful team goal.
