Guy has got to be thinking he's in a dream. From Wigan to Milan. That's a pretty staggering jump in lifestyle!

One can only hope that Robinson gets some tutelage from the great Maldini, and that he takes it to heart.

It will be interesting to see how Italy handles non-EU player slots in the future, since he'll be a "non-European" soon.

Plus he gets to hang with ZLATAN. I'd do that for free

Inter and AC are deadly rivals. Not sure I'd trust Zlatan in that situation!

Hope we can start to generate more excitement for this move and stop with the WTFisms that are bombarding Antonee. Excited for him to get a chance to push himself and compete soon.

If this was on a free transfer, I would be pessimistic. Free transfers are sometimes the equivalent of taking a flyer.

    But two things about this

    1) Robinson's current situation was a total drag. Three straight relegation battles in the Championship suck. That's a draining pattern to be stuck in.

    2) The investment from Milan.

I don't know how anyone can think this is a bad move after Milan forked over 8 figures to make it happen. They are not going to spend that kind of money and not give Robinson a chance to show himself on a big stage. It might not happen right away, but I can't see it not happening. And when it does, he's got a huge opportunity to launch his career to a special level if he plays well.

Robinson has already established a pretty high floor. Worst case scenario is that he goes back to the Championship somewhere. The best case scenario could be pretty exciting.

Zlatan would probably tell you that you should have to pay him to share his airspace. I can't believe Zlatan hasn't been immortalized in posts like the community did with Friedel some years back. Those were absolutely classic. Not sure where those posts hang out now or if they were lost in the crash.

While three straight relegation battles are a drag, it certainly could have been part of why he has developed into the talent that attracted Milan in the first place, so it wasn't all bad. I'm stoked for the kid, and am excited to have a reason to watch some Serie A. I don't know that I've watched a Serie A game since MB left Roma.

Also something I forgot to mention. One of the people Ivan Gazidis brought to Milan was Geoffrey Moncada. Moncada was the guy credited with finding a lot of talent that helped Monaco on their run to the Champions League final a couple years ago and is known as one of the best scouts in the world at finding unknown talent at smaller fees

Once you're there, it doesn't matter. The non-EU restriction is on signing players from abroad. He can freely move around Italy now, until he moves to a club outside Italy.

One reason this move didn't surprise me when I heard about it.

If we're talking about a club that hasn't qualified for the Champions League in the past 6-7 years, has only qualified for the Europa League twice in that period, and is ranked around 18th in a list of Most Valuable Clubs in the world -- turns out all of that applies to both AC Milan (Robinson's current destination) and Everton (Robinson's prior club). It actually also applies to West Ham, though they're having a rough season right now. And I don't think most people here would have been surprised at the thought of Robinson moving as a backup to Everton or West Ham.

The transfer fee though is the part that does surprise me, as it suggests that he's definitely in their plans, and Milan is historically a big enough club that there's a lot of potential upside to being in the long term plans of a club like that, even if they're currently in a rough patch.

Wish you had a link...but this makes sense for ACM. They've got cover now, and have a chance to see him up close and personal. From what I'm reading in this thread, FFP may force their hand wrt Theo. If Antonee is good enough, they've got their replacement for next year already. If not, they haven't spent that much.

From Wigan's perspective...LB isn't usually the difference between relegation and safety, but if they get relegated by 2 points or something, they're going to regret the hell out of this loan.

From the other Italian sources tweeting about this, it sounds like he passed the medical but Wigan are causing problems. Pure speculation here, but possibly they're asking for more money or have a handshake deal for more money from another club in the summer?

    Here's one source for that:

    https://sempremilan.com/all-the-inf...-sealing-e14million-double-deadline-day-swoop

Robinson, currently of Championship side Wigan Athletic, will take Ricardo Rodriguez’s place in the AC Milan squad and arrives on the basis of a loan with the option to buy set at €7million, which will become an obligation if certain conditions are met.

But there are conflicting reports on this. Perhaps that's part of the hold up right now?

If it's true that Wigan's throwing a last-minute monkey wrench into things, that seems a bit greedy. They're already looking at making 3-4 times what they paid for him just last summer.

"However, according to what has been learned by the MilanNews.it there is in fact no total agreement between the two clubs. The report states that there are problems regarding the payment method, and it remains to be seen if it will be resolved by 20:00.

In the meantime the player has left Casa Milan, with Thomas Rolfi reporting he has a glum expression on his face having been made aware of the complications."

If I was Antonee, I would be hot. So unprofessional for Wigan to now cause issues after he’s already passed his medical and is ready to sign and be presented.
