LA Galaxy are trying to sign Hull City defender Jordy de Wijs. (De Telegraaf)— Dutch Football 🇳🇱 (@FootballOranje_) January 29, 2020 New rumor : we're linked with 25 years old Dutch CB Jordy De Wijs, currently playing for Hull in the Championship.
Based on this Nov '19 article he had a good 2019 and Hull wants him but issue seems to be $$ (and probably length) of new contract: https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/jordy-de-wijs-hull-city-3568034 I have to say I prefer it when we are stealing desired players rather than picking up other teams' castoffs.
He looks like a good player. The championship is a fantastic place for us to be looking at to sign players. The wages are well within our cap space, and the players are still quite good.
All I remember was that at his previous club he came in with promise and was a disappointment. He was moved between cb and lb to try to get him to be effective. Fans of his former club weren't sad to see him go, unlike say Polenta.
I don't remember the Galaxy even trying him out at CB (in a real game anyway) or am I mistaken? Seems a bit strange that he only played LB when that really doesn't seem a good fit. I guess I'm just wondering if he might make a decent CB? That seems to be our bigger need at the moment. He must not inspire confidence at that position in practice.
Am I mis-remembering because I thought he played there a few times his first season? I don't want to experiment with him though. He's taking up way too much cap space and we need to get rid ASAP.
He played almost exclusively as center back in 2018. Was incredibly physically soft and made dumb decisions. Fatal for a center back. Last year the hope was that outside back would hurt the team less. I’d argue it did but still not good enough.
Pretty sure Skjelvik was the regular left CB for all of 2018, next to either Steres or Ciani. Remember, we had Ashley Cole at LB prior to this year.
Wow. I don't recall that. Must have been a very forgettable performance at CB. Or my memory is going...
Baxter seems to throw cold water on this rumor, although he doesn't explain why This rumor is probably not worth following https://t.co/rQyw9vmtI1— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈 (@kbaxter11) January 29, 2020
After reading that article I thought it was a bit suspicious. He still had a year on his contract and it sounded like he and club were happy with each other and he was asking for an early extension. IIRC we don’t often get Championship starters in their primes, probably because short of going DP we would have trouble outbidding their clubs. Scandinavian teams yes, Championship not so much.
Thank god. I thought I was going mad when I recalled him at CB. So this is what it's come to... trusting @GalaxyOne's memory over my own.
Skjekjlke was a center back who had recently begun playing left back from his club team when he moved here. Here is an article when it happened. We can all laugh now at the thought that having him on 900k a year might be a "steal". https://www.latimes.com/sports/soccer/la-sp-galaxy-signing-20171213-story.html
And I remember a Rosenberg fan posting here that the reason Jorgen was moved was he wasn't good at cb. You would think our FO would understand this inequality: cb->lb->release on a free ≠ $900k/yr player. But instead of understanding history, we repeated it. Still hope we buy out his contract before start of season. Don't expect it though b/c ownership not feeling enough pressure to free the cap space. Chichirito = ticket sales, don't need no stinkin' defense.
I don’t think he’ll be bought out unless we need his TAM to sign someone. However it seems like we have quite a bit of cap and TAM space available, considering how many players we’ve lost this off-season.
No, he is on his way to Denmark and OB Odense it would seem : https://beta.bold.dk/fodbold/nyheder/medie-ob-er-meget-taet-paa-la-galaxy-back
Skjelvik gone, this is great news. You know what could be amazing? If there is a transfer fee, we could be able to convert a fraction of the price into allocation money. We would gain money from Jorgen! DTK would officially become a genius.
SKLJELVIK: As we’ve been speculating for quite some time, it seem that Jorgen’s days in LA are numbered. Hearing he is preparing for a move. Club and destination unknown to me at this point. Although reports are indicating Denmark is that place. #LAGalaxy #MLS— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) January 31, 2020
ATTENTION ALL OB ODENSE FANS! Jorgen Skjelvik will be a great addition to your team. As a club we always try to makes moves with the player's best interests at heart, in this case he wants to be closer to home. Good luck, and please wire that transfer fee over ASAP, thanks. Did that work? ;-)
