Forgive me for being negative but for those thinking Foden will replace Silva next season I fear are being lead up the garden path. I just can’t see it unfortunately, he’s playing to little and only playing a few minutes here and there or in Cup games and dead rubbers. Hardly being tested in meaningful games to really see what he can do when under pressure, I will be surprised if he all of a sudden starts starting in important games next season.

And it's not like David Silva is good anymore, he looks finished. I read that Foden's entourage is afraid to let him go on loan as they think his development will be better with Pep, they're wrong IMO

Even if he replaces David Silva there's still Bernardo Silva, De Bruyne and Gundogan at the club.

Hopefully Pep takes another sabbatical because he is doing nothing for our national team. If there is no chance of Phil getting games now when the league is well and truly wrapped up then its not going to happen next season regardless of D Silva leaving. Wish we had a quota system in this country smh.

You wouldn’t think that judging on his current form, he’s woefully out of form at the moment and has been for a while.

Yep! I just can’t see the pathway for him to replace Silva next season as it currently stands. He’s played something like 250 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, that doesn’t feel like a progressive pathway, especially when his current opportunities are playing in the League Cup and dead rubbers.

It is a little bit bizarre that Guardiola's simultaneously cheerleading the abolition of the League Cup. Is ten games a year a bit much for him, Pep? Is he worn out?

He's just making excuses for his failure this season. Plenty of managers don't even try to win it and play weakened teams. He plays really strong teams against really weak opposition. His choice.

After Brentford signed Paris Maghoma from Spurs they have now had a bid for Folarin Balogun rejected by Arsenal.

Also see Fiorentina are trying to get Bobby Duncan loaned out but are pleading with Fifa.

I think Jarrod Bowen to Leeds would be a good move for both parties.

Garner and Gomes not on the bench for the game against Tranmere. Garner rumoured to be going to Sunderland on loan. No idea why Gomes isn’t involved.

On balance it will probably help us more than it hurts us, at least until there are more kids looking to go abroad than make it in the Premier League.

Won’t it also work the other way though, Clubs within the EU won’t be able to sign kids from the UK under the age of 18?

Not sure the best thread for this, but from David Ornstein in The Athletic re loans

Number of Premier League clubs encourage loan changes

FIFA’s task force in charge of the revamp of the loan system holds its latest meeting on Monday and The Athletic understands the Premier League wrote to all member clubs last week offering them an opportunity to submit any concerns and requests with new rules coming into play next season.

The existing laws on moves between Premier League sides remain unchanged for now but international loans are to be limited to six ‘in’ and six ‘out’ following a two-year transition period (eight in 2020-21, seven in 2021-22 and six from 2022-23 onwards).

Loans for under-21 players who have spent three consecutive years at a club between the ages of 15 and 21 face no restrictions, but there will be a maximum of three loans between any two clubs. That, for instance, may have affected Chelsea’s ties with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem in the past.

FIFA says the aim is to “prevent player hoarding and ensure that loans have a valid sporting purpose for youth development as opposed to commercial exploitation”, which could be problematic for the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Watford, Brighton & Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A number of sides, including Liverpool, want the under-21 exemption raised by two years to cover homegrown players who develop later, need to gain first-team experience and should arguably not fall into a quota aimed at stopping the loans market being used for financial gain.

That concern mainly centres around goalkeepers and centre-backs — Liverpool’s Nathaniel Phillips, for example, who is on loan at Germany’s Stuttgart — and in correspondence sent to clubs on January 21 the Premier League said it will lobby FIFA for the definition of “under-21” to be made “as favourable as possible”.

The Premier League will also ask that the word “consecutive” is removed from the same clause to ensure that players who go on loan during that period are not disqualified from the exemption.

Well yeah that's what I mean. More kids will hopefully be helped by having fewer foreign players blocking their path than will be harmed by having to wait an extra two years to leave.
