Just a tease... He's on the bench: This is how we line up to face Watford! 👊Presented by @eToro.#AVLWAT #AVFC pic.twitter.com/r8y5y2DneL— Aston Villa (@AVFCOfficial) January 21, 2020
All I could find was him going for a header in the 86’ that the defender headed out for a corner on the NBC Extended highlights.
Someone on twitter said he should have done better on the chance he had -- I'm guessing they're referring to this one.
I did -- I'm sure much of the praise can be attributed to the thrill of the last minute victory. He had a couple heavy touches when he first entered and didn't see much of the ball. He put a difficult header off target but he was sandwiched between two much taller defenders and it wasn't the best angle. What he did do well was press relentlessly and track back well on defense which did help turn the tide for Villa in the final few minutes.
Not getting a ton of service is right. It looked like Jack was trying to dribble thru the entire Watford D. Can't criticize him about the header... no one in the world makes a play on that between two defenders and that angle towards goal. Actually good that he even got a touch on the ball. He made one play that can be deemed worthy of praise... he tracks back close to his own 18 to win possession back in the final couple of minutes. The ball was in open space and could have led to a chance but he out-hustled the Watford player. Still have yet to see him with the ball in space going forward over these two sub appearances. He is making runs and pressuring the opposing Ds but has yet to get a clear chance.
Exactly Top will be kind of like the tweets that are getting the most attention but if you search a term and go to latest you will get up to date tweets.
From that thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=200&v=_owA2qhj1DY&feature=emb_logo And even better:
I had the same question that came up on that thread after I watched that video. Dude looks like a midfielder not a striker. Seems like that's where he played for us also for the youth national teams. Appears like they are playing him up there out of pure desperation, and even then, in the limited clips that I have seen of the last two games, he does not look like he is playing as a classic 9.
Transfermarkt has his primary position as left winger, sometimes playing attacking midfielder or right winger.
7 goals in 20 league games is pretty decent... he also had 3 goals in 6 CL games and that is very good. One has to wonder if Indiana has seen his last action.?.? I would love to see him get some time in the midfield or on the wings where he is likely more comfortable.... but I won't be surprised if this move spells the end for him on the senior team. I hope not.
Always felt like Vassilev had a very tenuous hold on a first team spot. Not like, say, Gio Reyna. Relegation battler in desperation mode trying stuff out. A couple of attacking signings and it feels like he is going to be pushed out of the side completely. Oh well it was fun while it lasted.
You’re joking, right? It’s not like the manager came out and said that he’s a member of the first team and a premier league player a few days ago or anything
They had approximately 0 healthy strikers. They sign a pretty good one and a 16 year old and we think Indiana's playing time is toast?
