You can't dispute that. It is founded on a circular argument that is somewhat unbreakable (to the audience you would convince). The fundamental tenant is that anyone who commits to MLS instantly is not a top player or is past their prime. Then all of the evidence shows that top players will not come to MLS in their primes.
See you tonight, @CH14_ 🛩 https://t.co/GheJ6ccDL6— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) January 22, 2020 If you would like to have fun at LAX
If you want to play the "what if" game, Grant Wahl is reporting that Funes Mori of Monterrey in LigaMX was the backup if Chicharito had fallen through. https://www.si.com/soccer/2020/01/22/mls-funes-mori-trump-infantino-luis-suarez-lodeiro
To wrap up the various conversations going on in this thread, I don't think Messi or Ronaldo is going to be the Chicharito backup forward that we bring in for added depth....
I may have told this story before but .... So I coached a Durham/Chapel Hill select team until they were about to turn 16 and then turned them over to Elmar Bolowich, a German pro player who later when on to coach the UNC men to their first national championship. Elmar was a great guy and a softy at heart but he also had the hard German way about his approach to training and coaching. Anyway he had been coaching the team for less than a month and we were playing a game in another city and for some reason we had to travel with only 12 players that day. Early in the game one of our players got injured and had to be subbed so now we are down to the 11 players on the field. One of our players, we'll call him Chris, was very talented but had a problem with consistent effort. Midway through the 2nd half we are down 2-1 and Elmar called for Chris to be subbed out. Chris comes to the sideline looking puzzled and says "But Coach we have no subs." Elmar didn't even look at him, just kept watching the game and said "I know, sit down." We played the rest of the game with 10 men on the field and a healthy Chris watching from the bench. Elmar got his message across to the team - he wouldn't put up with less than max effort from his players, no matter the consequences. I would like to say we came back to win but we did manage to tie. Anyway I'm pretty sure Skkljivk and his often lax attitude would find his butt permanently on the bench under Elmar. Maybe we need to bring him in next year if this whole GBS thing doesn't work out.
If we can field Messi and Chicharito at the same time I promise I'll quit worrying about the defense. I would just sit back and enjoy our repeated 6-4, 8-3, ... wins.
I agree. It would benefit Sasha to be central because he will have at least4 guys directly behind him in a 4-2-1-3 formation which means less running on his 34 year old legs.
Umm, yes I can dispute that. The best player in the world in his prime would immediately become past his prime if he signed with MLS? That doesn't make any sense. Next...
I didn’t hear any talk of any trislists at practice this week. Did anyone? Most teams have some and we certainly have needs.
Haha, you're right. I had no idea. Could have solved our biggest needs with twins, one a forward and one a centerback, both with superb resumes. They played together on FC Dallas youth team in 2008 and the cb is married to the sister of former Dallas midfielder Mauro Diaz. So they have US connections. DTK should have made an offer for the pair, luring them with the promise of being reunited in beautiful Southern California!
Doyle at mlssoccer.com basically cribs at least part of his notes on the Galaxy from this thread - thin up top after the strong front three - thin at center back - need some deep-lying CMs On the other hand, he is a little more optimistic than some about other positions - likes where they are at the GK position - reports at Araujo is doing well at USMNT camp, which makes RB solid Armchair Analyst: Did the East yesterday, so now it’s time for the Western Conference roster build status v2.0.That includes the Galaxy, who got their big fish but still have so so so much work to do...https://t.co/W92r7YNOOS pic.twitter.com/PNmYI0Sk0O— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) January 23, 2020
On the strength of the GK core, it's interesting to note that a GK expert puts Vom Steeg as the third best U23 keeper in the US pool right now and Lopez as the second best in the U22 pool. https://www.everybodysoccer.com/eve.../the-top-american-goalkeepers-from-u23-to-u19
Good news about Araujo reviews. Agree with him about the needs. His gk assessment is pretty generous and his lb predictions slant optimistic, as you said.
FYI: Press conference is scheduled to begin at 1pm PT. And yes, it will be live streamed on the @LAGalaxy website and on their YouTube page. #LAGalaxy pic.twitter.com/K2nBJWdbay— Delmy Barillas (@DelmyBarillas) January 23, 2020
