For another "factual" statement about the back injuries, see this info from Solskjaer's news conference. Basically says he has two stress fractures in his back and they occurred simultaneously during a "challenge" by Wolves' Matt Doherty. Solskjaer specifically denies that Rashford was carrying a back injury into the game vs Wolves.

If we are going to be picky, there is no reference to "stoppage time" in the LOTG or recent FIFA advice on VAR protocol.

There are, according to the LOTG, two different types of time added to the prescribed "normal" game length:

    1) "Additional Time/Lost Time/Time Lost" - this is time added due to certain (noted in LOTG) stoppages during the course of regular play. Fifa most often calls the time added on for these stoppages in play "additional time" although it also uses "time lost," "lost time." The phrase "stoppage time" is never used in LOTG, although it does reference "stoppages in play" as contributing to "additional time" when they are "excessive."

    2) "Extra Time" - "two further equal periods" that some competitions may use
"where competition rules require there to be a winning team after a match has been drawn."

Now you are prepared for your next referee test or drunken bar argument.

    You are welcome,

    Love freisland

    3) "Lost Space/Spatial Losses/Lost in Space" - these were names considered for a television show that appeared on the American TV in the 1960s. Ultimately the producers decided on the third option. The phrase "Lost in Space" is also sometimes applied to players forcing play out of the back against all logic in the Berhalter system.

I guess I wasn't being picky was I? Although, Stoppage Time might not be referred to in the FIFA LOTG, it is often, if not, almost universally called that by commentators, at least in England and the US. "Overtime" is never used, unless you are watching an American college playoff match.

It's been 35 years since I have looked at the LOTG. I was a 10th grade "linesman," a term not used anymore. Do they still use the term "Ungentlemanly Conduct"?

    Not picky enough, I'd offer.

And sadly, ungentlemanly conduct" has fallen to the PC crowd and it is now referred to as "Miss Conduct" which seems sexist, but whatevs.

OK, that's weird. You may be joking but I thought that it was called "Unsporting Behavior."

Either way, the term won't stand the test of time. One day it will be called "Intentional Douchebaggery" or something.

I was surprised it wasn't Ms. Conduct...

(yes, I'm joking. The terms used in the current LOTG is "unsporting behaviour" in case you are ever on a footie quiz show. And, of course, misconduct is used for all sorts of... well, misconduct.)

i was worried that his being there would turn me into a reluctant chelsea fan, but i am happy to report that with him out i find it just as easy as ever to root against them

I don't root against Chelsea, unless rooting for them not to score any goals while CP's out counts as rooting against them.

I don't know, I was not a CFC fan, prior to Puli, but it seems to be really poor form to root against them when CP is not playing.

I get that expecting classy behavior on an internet message board is asking too much, but some of this is OTT. It isn't like they shit on our lad or anything, why would we want them to be abysmal when he is hurt? They still need to get in the CL for next year if our boy is to shine on the big stage.

I don't know why you would root against them if you are a fan of Pulisic, unless you are an Arsenal fan. I think Pulisic fans should want to see him playing in Champions League.

Hudson Odoi looks good. They could be a good pair on the flanks.

CHO looking pretty good so far, but the defensive contribution is very very light. He and CP on the flanks will leave a lot of work for the midfield and the fullbacks.

In an attacking sense though, that could be very dangerous.

Do you not want CP in Champions League next year?

Yup. If this season has taught me anything it is that the EPL season is a grind... especially during the winter months. Chelsea needs CP, Willian and CHO to do well on the wings in order to make it to the CL. It wouldn't hurt if they had a better D and GK. I heard this AM on Sirius that Kepa is ranked something like the 127th out of 138 GKs in top flight Europe this season... Just terrible.

Didn't watch, of course, but a very satisfying result: Chelsea 2-2 Arsenal. How so, you may ask, when I asked for zero Chelsea goals. There's a simple explanation, really. In going for a quick laugh, I neglected to qualify/amplify my post.

Chelsea goals: Jorginho (from the spot) and Azpilicueta (a defender) are 'allowable,' and in fact once David Luiz was sent off (at 26' of the first half!), skewing the 11 v 11 analysis, any Chelsea goal from that point forward would have been acceptable.

    Happy now?

Chelsea gave up 2 goals when they were up a man. Arsenal had two shots and two goals. Arsenal scored tying goal at 87’. If I were a Chelsea fan, I would have thrown up.

I don't know who needs to hear this but...

Chelsea still have some defensive issues. They may somehow keep ahead of the hapless pack behind them, but it won't be due to their defense.

They play like they are young and maybe a little soft. Both goals they conceded were inexcusable.

I can see Lampard and his inexperience costing his side a shot at the Europa League at the rate they’re going.

He’s got the funds to at least bring support and depth to his side yet stated he won’t buy to buy. When you aren’t comfortably clear of the teams behind and your keepers and defenders are garbage, you have no depth in attack after Abraham...his midfield is unreliable with Kante being a shadow of what he was at LC...

This transfer window isn’t about luxury, it’s about necessity.

Lampard isn’t the guy. But given his legacy with the club, it will take a long time to see that. JMO.

It's amazing that Kepa has been such a low-key bust; he's like the Bill Hamid of EPL keepers.
