    I thought he played great. No question should have had an assist or two after a couple of really nice balls. Picked up exactly where he left off prior to the injury and was all over the field. The goal was not his fault in any way, that was a hospital ball that he was given. He was not perfect though. He got bossed in the air all game (not really his game) and failed to contain and got blown by 1 v 1 on one or two occasions. The fact that he was fast tracked back into the lineup to a team that was performing as well as it has been speaks volumes. I'd be very surprised if he is not cemented in the CDM role going forward as long as he stays healthy. Sky is still the limit for Tyler, looks to me like he did prior to the injury.

    I see TA more as a 8 than a 6 but it really depends on the formation and who is also on the field.

    Personally, I would never say no to Kunte; but aside from that, Ngolo is an established World Class CDM and World Cup winner, and our Tyler, already a solid starter on a top team, has potential to reach Ngolo's heights, imho.

    Pirlo was the deepest and the team was built around him. Gattuso was the right center mid and I forget who was the left (Pogba?) but they covered tons of ground and won the ball in front of Pirlo. They often passed back to him and he would hit a 60-80 yard pass on the nose to a streaking player. He must be in the top 5 for long distance passing accuracy ever. Oh and he took great free kicks too.

    so what’s your point? A 3 is a better than average score for Kicker.

    He was middle of the pack. 3 is average.(kicker always add +.5 to the players that lead the table).

    Who scored ranked him as middle.

    To the high soccer iq guys:
    Beware is the low soccer of guys, dont bet against them is the psa ;)

    To the posters trying to determine how a player played because they couldnt watch and rely on posters;
    Ymmv with low soccer iq posters :)

    3 is a good score. It is NOT average by Kicker's system

    Sorry but it's a pet peeve of mine. When Adams was at RBNY he said his favorite model player was Nogo Konte. I posted at the time that Adams should forget Konte and concentrate on Adams because he was better than Nogo.

    In discussion about a regista Pirlo's name was brought up and someone posted that they didn't think Pirlo was the deepest midfielder.

    I always forget whether 1 is Best or 5 is Best. But he had a decent/average performance?

    as stated elsewhere, the german high school (gymnasium) grading is as follows (and the Kicker ratings are based on the same):

    1 = Excellent
    2 = Very Good
    3 = Good
    4 = Satisfactory
    5 = Lacking
    6 = Bobby Wood

    Do you have a source for the statement that Kicker adds 0.5 for top teams?

    In the past I've stated that Kicker seems to rate players in part by what expected of them. Or, if you are good it is harder to get a good rating since you have a high bar. However, that was just my opinion based on what it seems like sometimes. Others would say as an American you automatically get a -0.5 every time.

    German/kicker grading is basically a log logistic distribution;
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Log-logistic_distribution

    No one can really signifcantly deviate positivley above the average unlike in that pbs radio show (sorry forgot that minnesota guys name;)

    Basically very few, if any get a 6, which is the literal equivalent to an orange cone, aka the bobby wood (which is why it was sooo... Infamous that he got so many 6s (maybe a record?). A 6 in german = EPIC FAIL in americanese ;)

    Very few from the entire bundesliga, if any get a 1 (i think only haaland got a straight 1 this week from the entire bundesliga games.)

    In terms of bias with kicker, my observational sense is that with the top team(s) they are generally +.5 bias. With middle games they are+-1.25 random and bottom teams .-5.

    In german a 3 is "satisfactory"

    But to very clear if you get a 5.5,6 or 1,5,1, (world class/ top ten in the world on that given gameday) there is no question how they person played.

    Edit here are kickers top xi grades:
    https://www.kicker.de/767532/slideshow/die_kicker_elf_des_18_spieltags_sieben_debuetanten_um_haaland

    Last edit, for those that want to play around, use the filter:

    Oh oh..I stand corrected! 3 is indeed "satisfactory". Sorry about that... my memory is fading...

    1 = Very Good
    2 = Good
    3 = Satisfactory
    4 = Sufficient or adequate
    5 = Inadequate, insufficient
    6 = Bobby Wood

    Thanks for the links.
