Why did Mount start and not Kovacic? And Willian, when he’s on, he great, but man when he’s having a bad one it’s just, damn.
That sort of freak goal can always happen but you'd hope to get a goal with THAT much possession in forward positions.
Oh, for sure. It's easy and lazy to blame Kepa for the loss. Or Just Rudiger. The whole team did nothing for the entire game.
No, I would say at least 2% was meaningful. To be fair Newcastle were very organized and defended well. An early goal against them would have opened them up more. But they had a plan and they stuck to it and they won. With them playing 5 at the back, we needed to press on them more.
Because Mount is a more attacking player? --- more goals, more assists, more hockey assists. I like Kovacic a lot but he is a different type of player altogether.
Kante needs to be either taken out of the side or played in the holding role. We've struggled to break teams down whenever he's played in a more advanced role.
The stats say otherwise, but we aren't really creating clear cut chances. Cant wait for Loftus Cheek to come back and add a bit of cutting edge. We are sorely missing that.
https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2020/01/17/frank-lampard-press-conference-pre-newcastle-away He's training with the U16s now. A previous estimate was end of January. I think it will probably take a while more to get fit for the first team
We really can't put all of our eggs in an injured basket. In other words, I don't think we should be thinking all of our problems will be solved if/when RLC ever comes back. ->We had a striker who couldn't connect with any of the service James was providing. ->We had two wingers on 120K/week that can't muster a chance or a shot on goal. ->We have an all-world World Cup winning midfielder who looks like he's forgotten how to play. ->An Italian international midfielder who has some edge, but I'm not sure he knows how he fits in the team. ->A 21 year old attacking midfielder who ran out of energy 20 minutes into the match. His replacement was as exciting as a glass of settled Metamucil. ->The defense looked decent until the very end; again, any ball in the air in the 18 yard box is Threat Level Heart Attack for this team. A lot of people are blaming Kepa. Fine, a top, top keeper MIGHT have saved that. I get the frustration. It came at the last gasp and the spotlight was on him. But it was a perfect cross, a perfect header into the ground, from six yards out. That's not easy to stop with the amount of speed on the header. Cech has let those in. Courtois, too. Oblak. To blame Kepa is to ignore all of the other issues outlined above. To not create anything against Newcastle is a crime.
I didnt see this (thank god) but from what Ive t's the exact same problem every week, we need 300 attempts to score a goal our opposition score every 2 attempts! Did we actually have 19 attempts and not get a sniff of registering even once!?
Thing is, Kante gets in such good positions to score, it's almost better for Frank to teach him how to shoot. Only to think we could have been 8 points clear.
This game. When all is said and done we did not play well. We played badly. That said, we did not really deserve to lose. A 0-0 result would have been more accurate. Newcastle got lucky at the end. That is football. Lampard on Kepa. "I will always defend all the players, goalkeepers hold their hands up as well. At times he has made good saves, at times he might feel he should do better," said Lampard. “I didn’t have a direct conversation with him. I am sensitive to the fact that they are understand the microscope. It is the same for any player. I try to push them, like everyone. "He is a good goalkeeper. There have been times that he has saved us points.”
